I have a 91 Hilux and it is stuck in 4wd and I cannot get it out.
I was at the lights yesterday and I pressed the 4wd button on the lever, the 4WD light came on and the car went into High.
I switched off the button, but the light still stays on and 4WD is still engaged.
I have tried moving it into 4 low and disengaging the button, putting in reverse and trying to disengage but no luck.
Anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve the problem?

Hilux stuck in 4WD

How do you know that its still in 4WD????
If it is still in 4wd and not just a faulty conection with the dash light then it is most likely a problem with the ADD actuator assembly!!!
There could be a number of factors but the most likely is its either the ADD RELAY, a damaged vacuum line or a faulty actuator!!!!
They can be a easy fix, but its quite hard to explain!!
To check the vacuum lines have a look under the bonnet, you will see the big black fuse box, near there you will see a bank od solinoids. There will be three hoses. Each will have a different colour band on them.
Blue band will have vacuum when 4wd is engaged
Pink band should have vacuum when 4wd disenged
White band vacuum supply hose!
It could be that anyone of these have come off or broken.
You will need to follow them and make sure they are connected!
The blue and pink bands will run down to the front diff, as for the white one you will just need to follow it around as where they go to changes between models!
If all the vacuum lines are intact then it will be either a relay or the actuator itself.
If this is relay or actuator and you may be better of buying a workshop manual or even a Gregorys manual (these are quite good) and you should be able to fix or troubleshoot any problems!!

Thanx for the help. I bought a Gregorys workshop manual and we traced it to the 4wd motor that sits on the back of the gearbox, where the tailshaft connects. We unplugged the main lead from the engine bay to it. This has solved the problem.
From what the Gregory's says, we think that it is the ADD Relay.
