GQ starter motor
GQ starter motor
Hey guys i have a GQ shortie 4.2 diesel was running really good lately but the one day was out driving it and then came to start it again and it wouldnt crank over ,got all power and reds all fuses r intact just wouldnt crank over only making a clicking sound thats it ,and if u mess round with it turning the key on and off u can b lucky and it might start cranking then kik ionto life, so anyone know what could b up i thought might b the starter motor going but when this happened the first time and when we got it going again it was a few hours later and i noticed the clocked inside was like 3 or 4 hours behind like when u dis conect the battry then re connect it , but we never did that and we always had power there just no cranking..
any one know what may b the problem???????

okay, I had the same thing not 3 weeks ago. Had my GQ for about 6 weeks now (something like that). Surprisingly, it is the starter motor on its way out. SEQLD 4x4 sourced a benched tested 2nd hand one for me for about $300.00 or something. Apparently a new one can be about $1000... But the thing works a lot better now.

Had this on mine also (TD42), mine was rebuildable. The solonoids where on the way out and the throw out bearing (thing with gear on it) was dry so they pulled it apart greased her up been good since.
As for the clock dunno, but mine works every now and then, and it still shows roughly the right time. So mine must have a loose accesories wire, and the memory wire is good.
Turps
starts but prick of a clock.

Clock is an easy one. Someone posted some stuff on the Patrol list a while back on how to fix it (just giving credit where its due).
The common problem just doesn't display the time but does keep the correct time. (ie not related to the problem associated with the first post of this thread i think)
Fix:
Pull out clock and Re solder the connections on the circiut board to the resistor. A hotdog shaped thing which on my patrols are blue with a stripe. On the bottom of the circuit board roughly. Need a pic to show it..... :?
