Trail Gear 6.5's or S4?
Trail Gear 6.5's or S4?
Hi im about to buy some gears in the next few weeks and what i want to know is what other people think of their gears and which you think is better.
I know that the trail gears have unlimited warranty whereas S4 only have 2 years.
Thanks Mitch

There's your answer! I am about to buy the TG 6.5's from lowrangeoffroad. With the AU dollar the way it is, it works out at roughly $650AU for the gears, a rebuild kit and new output shaft pilot bearing - delivered to my door!I know that the trail gears have unlimited warranty whereas S4 only have 2 years.

Oh and another thing, what do i need to get when i order them?
Do i buy the rebuild kit or just buy the bearings seperately and silicone the case together?
And is it advisable to buy the HD front output or just wait and see how it holds up?
Anything else i've missed?
Mitch

The "Gear Install Supplement Kit ($115USD)" that I mentioned is the correct kit IF you are buying the 6.5 gears, and if you wish to do a FULL rebuild of your case without 'doubling up' on any parts. It is up to you if you wish to do a full rebuild on your case or not.
cj - the "couple of extra bits" is exactly what this kit is... Sean from Lowrangeoffroad confirmed this for me today.
I choose to do a FULL rebuild of my transfer while it is apart - so I got the kit.
If you don't want to do a FULL rebuild of your transfer then that's fine too - Suit yourself!

don't forget to strengthen the case though once you fit the gears!!! I found out the hard way, and smashed the new gears and housing :(
F&R ARB air lockers, lux diffs, 4 link coil rear, drop shackles, inboarded ranchos, stage 4 reduction gears, 35" silverstones, 9500 winch, RUF, 1.6 EFI, swimming goggles
While we are on the topic (sorry for hijack ) what is the general consensus on strengthening? For those on a slight budget, are transfer rings the go or not? If so, where is the best place to get one? (I did a quick search but did not find much relevant info on this.)get it up there wrote: don't forget to strengthen the case though once you fit the gears!!! The rings are good, PM roktoy (Chris) as he makes them. Also beef up the arms as these will bend.Pezooki wrote:While we are on the topic (sorry for hijack ) what is the general consensus on strengthening?
