Just my 2 cents here,
But personally I find auto/ ratchet lockers to be crude and noisey on-road, and no better than a welded diff offroad.
Yes, a welded diff will make your tyres squeel and chirp in carparks and servo's.An auto locker will do the same, as well as banging & clanging like you wouldn't believe! Also, the pins and spring can wear out.
Having said that, a poorly welded diff can fail within minutes if it is not cooled slowly and welded in the correct manor.
Your choice.... But I would rather weld my diff and buy a few spares with the change that I would otherwise have spent on the autolocker.
Or you could buy a KAM locker like I just did

it seems like some bang and clang alot, while others dont.
I find mine 100x better then when i had the welded in. I cant even hear it clicking on corners unless im going really slow with the window down.
As i have found out, some find them noisy, others dont. It might have something to do with how they where set up, but im still unsure.

Layto....
Its an electronic diff locker for a zook. And from what I can tell, its just as expensive as a Air locker and alot harder to install.

I bought a rear KAM locker.
Yes it will cost me about $1350 AUD by the time it is on my door step which is about what an airlocker with compressor costs, and yes it is more work, BUT, there are no $hitty airlines to get snagged by sticks etc, and it comes with 40% stronger rear axles, which in my application was necessary due to the 1.6 turbo donk.

Yeah, fair nuff. the whole reason for an auto locker is the cost. KAm locker looks nice but. Enjoy that.Gutless wrote:lay80n wrote:http://www.kamdiffs.com/

so the lockrite is pretty quiet? There seems to be heaps of different brands out there. Are they all pretty much the same or?Spike_Sierra wrote:im running a lockrite with couplers from www.lowrangeoffroad.comStarkRavingSimmo wrote:So what one are you running?Spike_Sierra wrote:Gutless wrote:Just my 2 cents here,

they all work in the same way, im unsure if all lockrites are quite, but the noise has never been an issue in mine, and im not just saying that because i dont want them to look bad or i just put up with it, it genuinly its really quite. its a faint tick tick tick. well worth it.

Sweet, that sounds alright. I'm definitely going to consider investing in one. I might just do it and then deal with the on road differencesSpike_Sierra wrote:they all work in the same way, im unsure if all lockrites are quite, but the noise has never been an issue in mine, and im not just saying that because i dont want them to look bad or i just put up with it, it genuinly its really quite. its a faint tick tick tick. well worth it.
