I'm probably double posting but I couldn't find anything.

What should my 5000km services involve. I do 5000kms pretty quick (a bit less than 2 months) so I'd like to know I'm doing everything right.
At 5000 I drop the oil, check coolant, brake fluid, washer bottle
At 10000 I do the above and change the oil and fuel filters and give the air filter a bit of a bang if it's a little dusty.
What else should I be doing?
What are the important things?

On what 4wd?

Wheel bearings, cvs, drive shafts, fuel/air/oil filters,

Oil and filter and grease the uni's every 5k, fuel filters every 10k on the diesel, air filter whenever its dirty, brake/clutch fluid and coolant every 40k/2 years, gear oils every 50-60k, power steering fluid when it starts going black and smelling burnt, repack your wheel bearings ( i think toyota recommend every 20k but normally they can do a bit longer if you aren't too bad roads etc)check your brakes, light etc.

No not new, its a 1990 Troopy with a 1HZ

it would def be a good investment to pick up one of the workshop manuals (gregories or similar) for your vehicle. they are about $50 and tell you what needs to be done when and how to do it.

Was just wondering what's an overkill and what should maybe be done earlier.
So what is the main reason for doing it 5000 instead of 10000? Is it just
because it's so expensive for a rebuild?
I'm not arguing the fact, but simply trying to understand diesels a bit more...

its because the oil gets dirtier much quicker in a diesel engine, especially older indirect injected engines.

i do all of our cars every 5000km regardless. (oil and filter)
thats my patrol, our AU falcon, dads BF ute and mums camry(now a mazda3 petrol ) my brothers rodeo and my sisters mazda3 TD

oil and filters are cheap, engines are not.
