36s to a GU
36s to a GU
G'day all. i am lookin at gettin a gu 4.8 and want to fit 36s to it. Now i have heard alot of different stories on what suspension to fit to fit 36s. i've heard u can do it with 3 inch and i have been told you need 5 inch minimum.
Can anyone shed some more light on this topic. cheers

been covered heaps but here is what i have done!!
with 36s and bigger you will most likely always get rubbing somewere on the guards even if lifted 5"! this is just sllight rubbing and will not cause damage!
Now i ran 36s on my standard height GU for 6 months and it rubbed on full flex at the rear and on full steering lock it rubbed on back of front mud flap/guard! No issue thou! only problem is that when the rear bounced hard when 4wding, that it rubbed also because there wasnt much clearance!
I have then fitted a 7" lift and still get rubbing in rear on full flex! the front has cleared and only rubs if turning and flexing up at same time, still no damage!
with your bus i would think that you would be very happey with 3" lift and 36s! it would drive well and still get along way! if you start going much more lift that 3" then it does have a few other issues and you are more likely to suffer on road drivability!

4-5 inch Lift.
36 ET2s and not the original rims that are pictured. I changed them to after maket ROH with Toyota offset.
the Gu rims rubbed bad in the rear guards and the front steering lock bolts needed to be wound out and replaced with longer bolts to stop the lugs on the tyres fouling on th radius arms.
Steering lock was undrivable.
