tailshaft question?
tailshaft question?
G'day, I just had my zook serviced by a mate. He told me that I needed to replace that tailshaft that connects the gearbox to the transfer case. What is this part called? Where do I find it? Thanks guys!

I am not entirely sure what is wrong with it, I will find out more information. I know that he told me about the uni-joints, but I was lead to believe that the actual jack shaft was in need of replacing...

If uni damage is bad enough, it can lead to damage to the yokes which are a welded part of the shaft.
The other possibility is slip yoke damage.
It's rare to need a new shaft though - normally uni's are all it would need.
Steve.

Alot of people (mechanics) dont like changing uni's so just tell you that you need a new shaft. My lil bro had this happen with his Zuk.. they wanted something like $300 for a "reconditioned" intermediate shaft.Gwagensteve wrote:Suziworld in Culverlands road, West Heidelberg.

Not so much they dont like changing them, but its more profitable to just swap a shaft these days. They quote an hours labour, it takes 20 min to do. All easy work, just swap and go. They also charge a markup on the shaft, which usually has a bigger % of profit margin too.
