need to make a new power steer bracket

Post by christover1 »

Damn and blast.
New engine has a slight difference in the casing, so I need to make a new bracket for power steering pump.
Is missing the threaded hole I need for current bracket.
Never expected that surprise. Could be an A or B thing?
Slight difference in timing belt tensioner, too, but soon worked that out.
Oh well, rest of engine fit going smoothly ish.

Is the casting there?
Can you drill a hole and tap a thread?

yep like that.
I'm going to replace the spacer with a wider piece, going back to use both holes , so will still have 3 bolt points, and the thick bit of metal will provide bracing..we hopes
Still using 1 original hole, so should be accurate positioning, we also hopes

I must be just too hard core for them Image

It has done 2 or 3 Adventure Tours, plus how ever many it did in the white beast, and many hard trips, a bit of touring and an awful lot of road kilometers, so it was good value for zilch.
Thanks Mock and Josh for years of fun from it ImageImageImageImage

Present donk was a good buy.
$300 2nd hand, but it also has a huge pile of brand new bits with it.
So long as it runs ok, I'm very happy with it.

I re used the 1 original pump mount hole, so I knew alignment should be fine.
I only had 10mm plate, not the better thickness of 8mm, so I just used a washer to space out the original hole.
It feels solid enuff.

Now to get the bugger to run, I thinkz I assed about the valve timing, too much rushing, or too dark n cold, or I getting old and daft...or all of the above Image

One rocker was off its valve, that explains why it didn't start or run well.
Not sure how, but guess it was me fiddling with things I shouldn''t touch
