I run the original style Longfields.
My rig has been down for most of the last year.
I have wheeled it for one weekend since i rolled it(Outerlimits Wild Weekend) and i gave it heaps running a 4.4ltr leyland V8 dual cases double locked and 38"TSLs and they are still holding up fine. Before i rolled it i mainly ran 33"JT2s,22RE,Dualcases and double locked but as you may have seen from some of Troys vids i wasnt nice top the CVs. In one vid i was actually trying as hard as i could to break them.I ran them for allmost a year before my roll.
Adrian has broken one on his 38.5s and Bj has broken one on his 42s both of these were in for at least 3 months of hard wheeling.
This new style im still not sure on but i have ordered some as spares and we will also be running this style in the front of Sams new buggy on 42s.
Bobby has done a lot for the Toy axle and even with his business faults he still builds the strongest toyota CV on the market bar none. With Allpro's history i wouldnt buy the Profield and i defianatly wouldnt Pre-order anything from them. As for Smirfields i still havent heard of any real built rigs running them with success in the US.
Yes the Smirfs and Pro's are cheap but i can buy S/H stock CVs for $20 each so if cost was an issue i would just keep buying them. Cost isnt the issue i want something that works.

308LUX wrote:hey RUFF how long are longfields lasting you blokes?
just interested cause after watching a few of Troy's vids im thinking not long
Quite a while!!
Ruff's are clicking but they have been doing so for some time.
Both myself and bj have each busted a Long on the same Obstacle, prior to that they have coped a shiat load. I have Bj's original Long in one side and one of my original longs in the other. This is what they have out lasted!!!!!
1 Lokka Lock Wrong
3 short side axles
1 long side axle
2 Crown wheels and Pinions (one pinion actually exploded threw the top of the third member).
1 Locking Hub
1 Rear output shaft!
All axles, one C&p and the Hub was all before i fitted Traction control!!!
NOW CAN ANYONE TELL ME THAT THEY AREN'T WORTH IT!!!!!!
Even if the New ones are NOT QUITE AS strong (which i doubt) they will still cop a shait load!!
so '4sum4' i wouldnt worry about braking your longs mate,
if they are lasting half as well as RUFF, POS, BJ & STRANGEROVER say and these guys are IMO the most hardcore you'll see in Aus, then they must be farkin good.
as you can tell those outerlimits videos have got me a bit excited

Well if thats the case, i don't think you should buy the "O/L weekend" Vid when it comes out!!!!
There is, in my mind a reason both Adrian and myself snapped longside lngfields, as the axle provides greater twist.
We also compete, which is harder on the gear too. I would say myself and Adrian had them 8-9 months before breakage. Including a few trips, and two comps. I have broken 2 short sides and twisted the splines on a long side.
I ran an ARB in the front and 9.25" crown wheel as opposed to POS with the hilux front centre, hence a lot less carnage in terms of front diff centres. Plus POS is just plain ole psycho!! Up until recently I was airlocker in the front and ON all the time. 42s 15" wide, at low PSI, 2300 kilos, and a big turbo diesel powerplant.
Now im lighter, and have a system which is much easier on the front axle, the traction control system is built by Ruffs Boss, Sam. BUT I do have 300HP and have been flogging it!
I don't know much about the traction control, except it works like a locker, and I havent broken anything in the front axle and ive driven harder than ever before. The Traction Control and Longs have proven themselves.

hands and mums dont count!!!
308LUX, in all the O/L vids and XRCC vids that you may have seen, i am running LSD centre with Haultech Engineering Traction Control (another StrangeRover masterpiece ) on the front of the POS. It was and still is in a very big and ongoing trail process.
Sam has also worked on a few other goodies for the Trac/control.
Mine is working really well, in my mind 90% as good as a locker. The biggest factor is that its probably about 200% easier on the front running gear!!!

And yeah i have been told to ditch them and fit hilux's but i can't afford to buy another set of airlockers again as well as the complete diffs

Toyo Truck wrote:Hey Guys,
What is the rough cost on a CORE CV joint?
They look pretty good,
Are they big $$$$??
Cheers,
Bart
They are a similar price to purchasing longs from snakeracing. Fairly similar product but not as well proven as the longs. There are a number of people running them over Aus with no reported breakages (other than those that were still in the R&D stage).
I have broken one CORE CV (the inner cage) but this may have been an installation problem that was out of my or Brett's control. The situation is currently being ammended by Brett.
