My opposition to 3" BL's over 2" BL's is (apart from that they look silly and don't really allow a bigger tyre to fit) that the body studs are well clear of the chassis at 3" so all the work is being done by the spacer/socket bolt.
Additionally, there's a lot more leverage on the chassis mounts at 3". Sierra chassis mounts aren't all that strong - I've repaired quite a few cracked chassis around body mounts, although not on BL cars, and more often on 1.0 litre cars.

Just use a 2" BL which are readily avilable. The extra 1/2" will not assist tyre clearance in any useful way.
