3L Hilux idler pulley rubbing

Post by toddo »

I have a 97 Hilux, 2.8 Litre diesel. Have just put on a turbo and then had the clutch replaced. The idler pulley of the air-con belt is now rubbing on the high pressure power steering line at the front drivers side of the engine. It has almost worn through, but seems to be holding for now. At rest, the pulley is about 10-15mm behind the pipe, so it only rubs while running / driving. The engine mounts look fine, the air-con compressor mounts are not loose, I tightened the 15mm nut on the idler pulley - it seemed a bit loose but it's still happening. Could it be the extra torque from the turbo twisting the engine over and forward? Took it back to both turbo and clutch shops - of course it's neither of their faults. Does anyone have any ideas?
