question on sierra engine. Are we able to update from carby to injection but still keeping the original 1.3L engine.

Also are we able to do engine enhancements that are straight off the shelf.. Extractors, Cams and Exhausts.

This is a great idea for off-road motorsports.

Unless that model (year) came out with it you can, if it did not you cannot change.

Yes you are allowed to fit extractors, exhaust and cams. As long as it is allowed to be used on the road.

Again remember this is a type of event where you do not have to spend a million dollars to go and have fun.

If you did not have a vehicle it would be very easy to step into this event for around $10k (about the cost of a full on comp truck front winch) that includes the purchase price of a vehicle.

Hi David,

thanks for the very speedy responses. Another annoying question. Adding power steering as 32s on a sierra can be very hard to do at low speeds and at 10psi.

Yes this is true, but these are CAMS SPEC INTERNAL CAGES that are built to a set of design rules and are done properly. I have seen the stuff they do and its good.

There is not no set rules for External ROPS and is open to interperation.

There are some good quality mine trays and some very very bad ones. The problem is both comply with mine specs.

To give you an idea, to bilud a good quality mine spec tray the builder has to refer to about 300 to 400 pages of protocols and information booklets and specifications etc.

An internal is about 17 pages.

Dave, is fuel injection off same engine series ok? eg:L28E in MQ , TB42e in GQ or we have to use lpg to make older petrols run fine up hills??

Sorry the easiest way around this is:- Year and model must run and be the same.

So yes you will have to run LPG

I know I am becoming an annoying individual however I would rather ask the stupid questions now then get to the start line and be turned away due to my twisted interpretation of the rules.

my question is it still ok to change from a single carby to multiple carbies. Or what about propane instead of LPG.

where will the comp be based in south east qld or further afield? ie will a round be held in rocky same as XWC also what about winch steel cable or plasma?

More good questions.

At the moment venues are likely to be SE Corner or Northern NSW.

Rocky is great, but I do not want to do several events at the same site.

But if anyone has property suitable south of Rocky I am keen to have a look.

Steel cable or Plasma rope, as I am trying to make this as cost effective as possible, steel cable will still be allowed.

Competitors will be able to spectate while the SS are being run.

your sayin theres no set rules for a rops? then you say theres 300/400 pages of protocol on them? a rops for mine use has to built to an australian standard and is far more recognized by workcover and insurance companies than a cams rollcage...a cams cage isnt subjected to destructive testing...they dont even specify an 'AS####' for the welds, nor do they specify a protection/weight capacity value that you'll see in the AS for rops...read up on the standard..internal cages dont meet rops

Yes I know and a couple of more people had been dropping that idea over several years.
Last weekend there were a few more suggestions for such and event.
And then Chris and myself started talking on the way home. From that first post on Sunday it has taken off like a bad bushfire.

All sounds good so far. On the GPS stages, I think you should give them a miss. Purchasing a GPS unit is a cost that is not needed, stick to 4wding and winching, keep it simple like your trying to keep the whole event.

how about STAUN INTERNAL BEADLOCKS, unlike mechanical beadlocks these are legal to use on the road ??? safty is good, would hate to peel a tyre of the rim on a speedy corner

Yes they may be road legal, but I am not going to say you can just use them.

I am trying to keep the cost down, so the answer is still no.

Mike regards GPS. As I stated it would not be until Round 2 if I do do a GPS, and yes you will not have to buy a GPS. Everyone will use the one that I supply, not theres. So all teams will be in the same playing field.

Some more updates as questions are being asked.


4 door vehicles such as a wagon or dual cabs:- Rear seats to remain and cargo barrier to be fitted behind drivers - codrivers seats.

All panels to remain original. (steel)

Front inner guards to remain.

Remember if it did not come out in year of manufacture you cannot have it.

Why Diff ratio changes and no reduction gearing??

In a sierra I can get close to the same low ratio with reasonable reduction gearing as I can with extremely low diff ratios.

In a sierra I can get close to the same low ratio with reasonable reduction gearing as I can with extremely low diff ratios.

Rules have to start some where and yes you can have ratio changes but no reduction box/gears.

And while on the yes you can and no you cannot:-

Welded diffs will not be allowed.

If all else fails refer to the perfect comment from TRobbo:-

I know it will be hard on some, but you do not get a chance to start and run a very standard event to often. You can always lift the rules but it is very hard to change/go back afterwards.

Take the XWC, at the start vehicles were not much more then standard and driven to the events. The XWC has progressed to a stage that it can not be hauled back from what it has become - "A great event with some amazing machinery". This is progress!!!

I put in a more standard class, but 99% still want to compete in Open Xtreme.

So if you want to run an EFI in your 89 Patrol or a 253 in your 40 Series there still is an event for you - ARB XWC - Xtreme Class.

With a brand new event I can put some strict guide lines in from the start . So if you want to run under the rules I am putting together for an event where you can compete with a limited budget in vehicles (nearly) from the show room floor and everyone on the same playing field. This will be the event for you.

Keep the questions coming, it is better out in the open then hidden away.

Just remember the only correct answer you are going to get will be from me.
