i know the modification rules booklet says welding to chassis and suspension is a no-no, whether they pick it is another thing. not sure how stringent they actually are though
even when you spell out commonsense to the RTA they still ignore it!

I seem to remember reading that too. The theory would be that it can weaken the chassis if done incorrectly I guess.
This is not legal advice.

i talked to an engineer about welding to the chassis and he did not care what i done, in nsw you can drill and weld to the chassis as long as you do it a certain way
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

Welding to the chassie can create heat stress and cause the chassie to crack. Probably never would but its one of those frowned apon things. You could take it to a place and see if they pick it up. Some places are alot more anal about RWC then others.

if you can try not to weld straight down or across, if you get me, try on a 30 to 45° angle, engineers prefer it that way. and neatness.....that goes a long way...

Some states allow it but not in Qld without a full engineers report and "In principle" approval beforehand.

we built a chassis from scratch and it passed. the rule states that nothing thicker than 2x the chassis thickness can be welded to another member.

that aside there are rules / code of practice for trucks which are higher order than cars and they allow for chassis welding.

you can get a truck mod plate fitted to a car / 4x4- providing it is to spec.

there are way around everything should they be picky on the roady

1/
Make sure the welds are spot on welds...... shitty welds will attract a good going over !

2/
Keep the welds well away from factory cut edges & bends ( pressed sections included ).
These areas are allready stressed and welding will further weaken that area.... a big NO NO !!

There's lots of other determining factors involved...... pity you didnt bolt em on hey !!
