i can understand the need for wheel guards but RTA spec seems a little over the top, making guards up to get ripped off or smashed in is stupid and depending on how its done can be expansive.

Evan
i would say on prevoius years they have the be full width of the tire,

they normally use a straight edge against the side wall of the tires and if your guards are too short you would get knocked back,

surely you didnt expect them to reword the rules and become strict making your flares come down to sill height, but then only let you cover half the tire?

That is quite right. They use a staight edge up the side wall and expect the flair to meet that edge. This part hasn't changed - been this way for years now.

just a little rant from an outsider

Why argue the point about the flairs? These are the rules and if u want to compete in nissan trials then you will make your car comply or be knocked back, its that easy.
You dont hear anybody with standard-ish full bodied rigs complaining about the flair rule, i do realise it is easier for them to cover the tyres, but they will do it and no complain. those of you with utes, yes it will be harder, and with a dove tail tray even harder again, but thats something that you have to work around. this comp is for ROAD REGISTERED 4wds, now i know half of you would NOT drive down the road with your tyres uncovered, so why is a comp any different?

Evan i have seen your 'street flairs' now how hard would it be to make up another set and instead of bling chequre plate, use sumthing else? like a plastic? on rubber with a few more supports in the frame?

Blade, i didnt think this was legal to have your tyres extend past the front and rear lines of the body/tray

Twon, u may have to look at sumthing similer to Even or Thunder for your tray

If you dont want to run full flairs/gaurds, then dont compete

Flares suck big time, but they are part of the rules and its the same for everybody.
If you put some thought in to them they can be very cheep, removable and flexable. But yes they still suck and look crap.
Same goes for the window nets, they are a pain in the arse to fit to clean rigs where you don`t want to drill holes etc. BUT they are part of the rules and are the same for everybody.

Personaly I think the fact they LOCK the gate at 12am on Friday night is a much bigger worry. Yes they expect people that travel huge hours to sleep out the front if they get there even 2 mins late  Have the organisers thought that in doing this it means that people that travel that fair can not work Friday and then leave? This just adds to the cost of going to NT. I`m talking 5 plus hours here, I don`t think people that only travel 4 or less have a leg to stand on here. Don`t know if this is happening this year or not but it did last year. Anyway my rant is over and doesn`y both me any more as I`m very unlikely to enter ever again.

x2 haha :finger:

Greg the rear guards i can make up a new set thats ok, its the front thats a problem as the ones on it now took ages and even if i make up another set (which i dont want to) if i lean it up against a tree or put it on its side it will fark all the mounts.

As an outsider, i mean i am not compete in trials this year, but i have previously and did so without questioning the rule book!

I have quiet a few years of being involved with comps, and comp vehicles, both full bodied and buggies.

Look at it like this, if you want to drive a car on road, the RTA has a set of rules that your car must comply to to be deemed roadworthy, if u dont meet these standards you dont drive on the road, same applies here, if you dont like the rules, dont play the game.

They are asking you to do a simple task, make sure your tires are covered

Rant over... and i can understand where Guts is coming from...

i never questioned it before either .
i wont go on about how its not a simple task for some vehicles as you say
and yes i'll simply not compete . noone will notice noone will care , but when the rules are reworded again next year and the year after and only son of trials vehicles with bigger tyres and lockers compete maybe than people will notice and care . n/t to my understanding was a good hard event , not something you'd want to take your daily driver in and try to be real competive , but an event that made you want to have a go at building something that could handle the challange ( i know there are alot of daily driven cars in it but not everyone has the money or the wife to allow it than aford to fix it ) .

anyways no dramas i guess today tonight is slowly getting the hard comp arena to soften too :D

and one last thing i did say earlier in my post , it is their comp and their rules so so be it , but i dont have to just grin and bare it with out voicing my thoughts against it (remember where in Australia the land of the free) :D besides if your not competing anyways way say anything , ? miss wendy has already discussed it so i don't see why you as a none competitor needs to voice your thoughts if they don't affect you in any way shape or form , and no im not trying to be a smart a$$ its been dealt with so leave it at that

and holmes your car is more roadworthy than alot ive seen in past comps

Its the first time in many years the rules have been adjusted. Its was needed due to cars pushing the boundaries. Rules need to be adjusted as times change. The club works hard to host this event and wants the crowd drawwing trucks there. We run the son of trials to get people out using there standard cars not drivening them to the shops. The 2 will never be the same.
If the only real change was flares/guards i cant see the event getting soft! We allowed bigger tyres in 2 classes to reflect the changes in peoples cars.

To Guts, unfortunately the event is run by a very small group of people that pretty much operate over the weekend on no sleep as it is. It would be great to have the gate open 24/7 but there isn't the numbers todo so or the people coming thru the gate at these times to make it happen.

You make it sound so final Guts. RIP (it is less expensive that way)
I know its a problem but maybe you could go home for a couple of hours sleep and leave to make it when the gates open at 6AM. Probably safer driving when your a bit refreshed and beats sleeping out on the street, so to speak. We are letting team members in early this year so we can try to finish all the class verifying at a decent time on the friday night. Almost everyone arrives on the Friday these day now anyway.

Wendy, I love competing and not just in NT but in ALL types of 4x4 events from winch challenges to all terrains to navigation to rock crawling but I can not afford it anymore. I`ll still do the odd comp here and there but it will only be ones that are close to home and now that I am living in Brisbane NT does not fall in to that category (not that it did before moving). So like I said very unlikely to ever enter again.

The gate thing sucks, I have been there 2 years, left work at 3pm in brisbane on the friday got there both times 2am saturday morning and both times we were told we could not enter and had to camp out side the gate :bad-words:

we argued with the guy at the gate who told us it was due to noise, we could hear people drinking and yahooing inside, and they did not believe we drove straight from brisbane even with qld number plates

other than that, it is a great comp both times once in we (83lux and I) had a great time and have spoken of getting a qld team together.
