Hey im just new to this but was reading a thread about that the other week have a search through the bible pretty sure it was in there,
but basically it was saying that it was very hard to do cos of the main drive line moving across you would have to move everything and
also the shifter would then be in the wrong spot and the transmission mounts etc

is it possible just to change the centres across to get the ratio down?

Cheers Craig

the centre diff is fine, wont put the shaft out enough t cause too much trouble. they are wider, quite a bit wider so they may not be legal without big gaurds.

you going coils or leaves? the only real reason for the change would be coils.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

GQ coil diffs are roughly 5-6 inchs wider than MQ.
GQ Leafs diffs are approx. 30mm wider than MQ.

There is NO reduction gears for MQ T-Case's, unless, they are custom made. A mate has some but they are the only I've ever heard of.

You could do twin divorced MQ T-Case's.

As for the GQ Box &/or T-case I have know idea.

GQ Coil diffs under a leaf sprung MQ is not easy. There is a few options -

Outboard the springs 2inchs off the chassis.
Have the drivers spring pack sitting on the diff centre and the passanger approx 50mm of the housing.
Or you could try and nortch the housing the fit the leaves.

Coils would be easyer and more legal. But trying to fit a Panhard bar could be a mission with the steering.

I have a 60's LandCruiser case (Driver side out put) but I'll be running a GQ rear diff (centre out put) I can't see it being a big problem but mine is not a Daily Driver.

duel MQ t-cases = a go especially if you have an LWB!

no reduction gears for MQ's because they don't fit in the gear box. No room for them unless you want something like 20% reduction. Not much point in that...

panhard in front is a bitch for sure....mine was!

Go coils, GQ diffs I say. But we don't have the legal issues here in the USA you do over there in Aus.

im fairly sure a GQ box can be mated up to a SD33, but you wouldbe better off putting a TD42 with box and case attached in. that will go with the GQ axles just fine. i know a block who has a MQ ute with the GQ running gear, bloody nice. his is leaf sprung tho

If you really want to stick with the Mq, get yourself a 5speed turbo diesel box & the 4.6 diff gears out of the petrol L29 patrol.
Is the easiest way to get low gearing using stock parts

As for gq diffs under the mq, Can you do the fabrication work yourself? If so then go for it, if not sell it & buy a Gq

I've had 2 mq/mks & went the move to a lwb gq, shits all over it!

The NA diesel 5 speed has the lowest first gear, equal with the L28? your diff gears...whatever you can get inthe gq diffs. If you got a divorced transfer you would probably have more options.

I've been toying with the idea of selling my MK and gettin a GQ but...i've just spent too much money on it and don't wanna start again
