i need to no if a 4.2 gq petrol diff is the same as a 4.2 diesel diff

dif housings yes,
manual 4.2 petrol and manual 4.2 diesel have 4.1 ratios,
auto petrol have 3.9 ratios
manual 3.0L petrol have 4.3 ratios

Wow, that's a bold statement!

IMHO they are a bit more varied than that. You need to check the vehicle basically.

well it is what they were meant to be fitted with from the factory in the GQ's, but whats in there could be different depending on previous owners and mechanics but its what should be in there, and from what i have seen with all the factory ones ive looked at seem pretty close to the money,

the rears come in a few flavours as well with the H260 and the H233. There is also a full floating H260 rear that came in the tray leaf spring rear MQ,GQ and GU utes .. I dotn know much about them except they are h260's with full float 37 spline axles.

The H260 is ohysically much bigger in the centre, the housing is easily identified by the small flat section about 6cm wide on the bottom of the housing.


Ratios that Ozy said are correct for factory applications.
