Daihatsu Spare Parts

Post by Goatse.AJ »

Well, I'm currently in the process of sorting out a few things on the Feroza after a couple of years of "neglect"....mainly caused by lack of time (working too hard) and lack of money (compliments of the Ex :x ).

Anyway, talking to my brother tonight, he works for a mob in Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne who specialise in hard to find auto parts. They have accounts with most of the suppliers listed in the FAQ section, and a number of others.

I'm hopefully going to be able to get the bits I need for mine at wholesale cost, but we are in the process of getting some comparisons between wholesale and retail prices so that my brother's mob can possibly do a better retail price on a lot of these parts for others. They also have a number of contacts for stuff like reconditioning of parts, etc.

I'll try to update this with more info as it comes to hand, but I think we can avoid anybody having to pay the ridiculous $250.00 + price for a genuine Daihatsu idler arm any more.... should be under $100.00.

I should be able to get poly idler bushes for under $20.00.

It's a pretty easy DIY job to replace the bushes once you've done it once. Mine has lasted about 4 years and is still ok (only a little wobbly), but will be replaced in the current round of maintenance.

OL Daihatsu owners was first thing I thought of coz I know how hard it can be to find some of these parts.

I'm gunna see if he can source timing belts and water pumps also.

One of there suppliers is also an agent for Ironman Suspension Products, so I'm going to see what sort of price he can do on that. Has anybody got a recent price on Ironman kits for F310?

Now that's a really usefull development. Need a complete idler arm and probably a few other steering ends etc.

Have been holding off because of the high price.....

Burwood.

The idler arm has always been an issue, want to get a new one on so I
can investigate putting in bearings instead of bushes using the old one
for "development".

I have tried rubber and urethane - they all keep chewing out. Its not
allignment - just an under rated design IMO. won't do the steering response any harm either..........

Ah well, another thing to do.

P.S. Vitara auto is even more difficult than I first thought - BIG job.
Hope its worth the effort.

Feroza transmission is out, but will hang on to it for a couple of weeks, just in case the Vitara conversion "ends in tears" - and has to be reversed.

Ok, just a bit of an update on parts. NONE of the suppliers we've checked out have anything in production at the moment

About the only things available are idler bushes (Hopefully less than $10 for urethane) and tie-rod ends. Still chasing a couple of others down.

okay I met a fellow whose house I was Painting and it happens that he is the owner of a steering & suspension shop, at moss street. any way I spoke to him about this problem of the feroza steering in idler & pitman arms as I have this same problem & he said that if he could get enough orders in that they would designe & make that part but they would need a new one to start with. they do design & manufacture on the premeses. so if there is enough peoples responce I will ring him end try to set somthing up,send me emails in responce to show him if you are interested. Idler arm is worth following, but mine has two problems :

1/ the ball joint is U/S
2/ the bushes to the chassis keep getting slack.

I am wondering how we can solve both problems at the same time.

whats other peoples experiences ?

Are these issues made worse by having big lifts or off road work? :? Seems strange some people are repeatedly replacing these components and other aren't?

Winding up the torsion bars will cause front end components to wear more quickly.

True - but mine isn't wound up - in fact the arm angles are exactly
standard 50% bump and 50% droop.

When the arm was stock the rubber bushes were an issue, now its not the urethane replacements are also DOA

And the pitman arm is fine on mine, its always the idler.

As its not a daily driver - its off road that seems to do the damage to mine.

Perhaps its the bigger wheels ?

Mines a daily driver (rarely off road unfortunately... ) and mine all seem OK. That's coming up to 195000km and I think they're original??

Tie Rod ends for 93 Rocky Independent Front end

Post by mallcruiser »

Hi Guys - I have been trying to track down a set of tie rod ends for my f78 TDi. Dai want $900 for the whole set. I have found a guy in china who makes them and sells them for $US1.80 each - if anyone has an international courier account I can get a couple of sets for just the courier cost - $US200?

I have tried many places in Aus and can't find anyone with non genuine parts....

I had better go and check the idler.....

Thanks,

Paul

Try MD Spares in Moorabin in Melbourne. Give Edi a call on 03 9553 0388. No guarantees, but he may be able to help you.

Paja has NOTHING in production atm. My brother buys parts from them for all sorts of things, but they can't do any Daihatsu stuff atm. I've tried a couple of others who source frm them and it's the same story :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words:

When I still had my Feroza, I toyed with the idea of custom fitting a Steering Dampener on it to try and assist the steering components cope with things.
I wanted to copy the set up on an IFS hilux.

Maybe be a solution.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

Yep its still a challenge to get REASONABLY priced bits.

Prices for upper and lower ball joint, and tie rod ends would be useful.

There are no doubt others with sloppy idlers who would love to know how much ( bugger I've already been screwed buy Toyota.... )
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

Just got ball joint prices for "mrpham", about half the Daihatsu price. Not sure about tie rod prices, I'll have to ring tomorrow.

Can you get urethane bushes for idler arms?

I take the ball joint prices are for upper or lower?

Aftermarket bushes for idler arms are usually available but are currently out of stock, and it's not known when the next batch will be available.
If you need them straight away I can do some more chasing for someone else who makes them.

Yes ball joint prices are the same for upper or lower.

Cool, thanks mate. Should be in touch soon for the balljoints. Will also need an idler bush too, even though I replaced the whole thing at the start of last year
