question about SAS on a surf

Post by daniel1 »

whats involved in doing a SAS on an 88 surf? i know about cutting all the ifs gear off ,do i have too remount the p/s box?ive got a TG hi steer kit for it , can i use a standard front spring mount off a hilux or dropped one?
can i copy a LFS 4 runner the way every thing bolts up,cause i have one with all the gear in it, 4 inch springs with 3 inch shackles,2 inch body lift etc.... any advice would be great Daniel

Overkill did my SAS on my old Surf but I can answer a bit for you..
Your steering box stays where it is (but advisable to strengthen the chassis as mine and a mates both cracked around the bolt tubes) using cross over steer.
I had fabbed front spring mounts which where the same as a standard lux mount - except a standard lux spring mount I think also incorperates a body mount.
The rear of the front spring used a "normal" shackle mount under the chassis which was the same as a longer shackle in a standard lux as they bolt through the chassis with a anti-crush tube.
I had standard height springs -no lift- which equalled a 4" lift in the rear coils (mine was a 94 Surf).
Hope that helps a bit,

Alec

Daniel, give locktup 4x4 a ring (they are in Perth), they sell TG gear and have dealt with this on a rig before.
