If it doesn't have a handbrake it's not a 1.0 case

It might be a maruti case (?)

all gears will fit, there's just some variation in the amount of grinding AFAIK.

Buy a 1.3L t-case.

Sell the 1L t-case. The one you have can be quite hard to find, so there's always people looking for these.

Buy some 4.16:1 gears from http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/samtcase.htm

Easy...

1 litre (with switch) and all 1.3 except coily transfers internal parts are interchangable. so all aftermarket gears available will fit your 1 litre case, grinding is only required when fitting equivelant to s3 and s4 ratios.

i've just got some in from lowrange offroad, not too happy with the service he gives but his prices can't be beaten
4.16:1 ratio gears $399.00
shipping $65.00
=$464.00US
bearings and seals purchased locally $120.00
gasket kit purchased locally $9.00

about $600 total to rebuild transfer with 4.16 gears.

Hey steve you said that it wasnt a 1L if it had no handbrake on it.
This is what mine looks like and i have been told it is a 1L.
Is this right? As this is all it came with.

mainly lack of communication. he wasn't very helpful when it came to answering a few questions. then when I placed the order he stuffed it up, and after waiting for a few weeks for his stock to arrive I sent an email asking if he had it in yet he replys 'sorry I dont have any order from you, i've sold all that shipment, you'll have to wait for the next lot'

so instead of a 1 month wait I have had a 2 month wait.

but I see they are bringing in a shopping cart system to they're website, that may solve a few issues.

like I said though, his prices are cheap, and they sell quality products.

It's been swapped at some stage.

ALL 1.0's have a handbrake on the case.

ALL 1.3 NT's have a handbrake on the case

The first 9 months of WT production have no handbrake on the case, but NT sized flanges

After then all WT's have large flanges and no handbrakes on the case.

It looks like Maruti's have no handbrake on the case and 1.0 gearing - you might have a maruti case.

It's isn't a 1.0 case that's had the drum taken off - that rear flange is unique to cars with no handbrake.

i forgot to mention to put 4.16 (s1's) into a 1 litre case you need a 1.3 lowrange output gear. pretty easy to get a hold of if you know someone who already has crawler gears.

Grinding is the EASY part in fitting gears.
If you have a Dremel/ Die grinder/ Angle grinder/ power file you will do it in a few seconds.

X boggedybillion

grind the case a little... drop the gears in - no contact - reassemble.

Most 4.16 kits these days will include all the gears you need.

for a 1.3 case yes. but if going into a 1 litre case 4.16 gears need a 1.3 lowrange output gear which is not included. dont know if its required for other ratios.

Yeah this would seem correct as the gear sets are designed for the 1.3lt case and with the 1lt ratios being different it is just not going to work with the 1lt low range out put gear being a different tooth count....

The 4.16:1 gear sets include 3 gears and reuse the stock 1.3 low range output gear but when you fit the lower gear sets like the 6.5's do you get a new low range output gear??

I have just got a set of 4.16:1 gears from Low Range Off Road to fit to my late 84' 1lt case i have not pulled it down yet.....

I'm wondering if any has a stock 1.3lt low range output gear to complete my install?? Other wise i will have to source 1.3lt case!

since you asked so nicely :)

these are BSC part numbers but most places should be able to workout what you need.

62/28C3 ball bearing x3
63/22C3 ball bearing x1
6306NRC3 ball bearing x1
TC12545 oil seal x2
TC12539 oil seal x1 (this seal may be different if you have a case without the handbrake attached to it, I can confirm in a few weeks)

this doesn't include the needle roller bearings but the bearing shops should be able to supply them if you give them a sample.
cheers,
Mark.
