turbo engineering

Post by a-dog »

I have a mate who is looking at a gq patrol to buy and it has an aftermarket turbo and when he asked if it was engineered he was told that when you turbo a diesel in NSW it doesnt need to be engineered. Does anyone know if this is true or not. I would have thought it needs to be engineered.
Thanks Aaron

I"m Pretty Sure you'll need One done. We engineer cars and 4wd's/Trucks at my workshop and we have to engineer all turbo conversions and that's in QLD and were a little more relaxed than NSW.

We look for things such as emissions beeing met, installation beeing done properly e.t.c

I've always found it strange that all these diesel turbo kits are sold without any mention of engineering or roadworthy issues. I'm sure most petrol turbo conversions would come with a 'not for road use' disclaimer...
If the diesel kits weren't roadworthy without engineers approval, the manufacturer/fitter could be liable...
