2.8 Lux top speed

Post by Turboln106r »

What is your hiluxs 2.8 diesel top speed, no bullshitting.

Mine is 120kmh downhill on 33's, no snorkel, no extractors, is that a litte to slow?

Non turbo with 33's sounds about right.
120 would be just over 3000 revs anyway so why would you want to go faster unless your not worried about longevity.

mine with 33's and snorkel does 95-100 on the flat depending on which way the winds blowing down hill had it up to 135 flat out in 5th not very safe leaf sprung live axles front and rear over sized box cart!
it's depressing everytime I have to go over 80kmph or up a hill, sand dune, overtake a semi, etc etc etc etc

I've got a 2.8 Turbo diesel hilux she'll do 140 easy enough by the gauge with 33's on a flat. i don't like pushin her though. 130 sounds about right though remember your speedo will be about 12% out

I dont push her hard at all, it was just a one off speed test.
Mine struggles to hold 100 on the flat.

My old car was a 2.8 with a garret turbo, had it up to 130 possibly could go 140 downhill if you were patient.

I think were are never going to get speeding fines

the 1st and last time i did i lost me licence in the only zone it could possibly be done a 50 zone. lets face it they're not designed for speed there designed for kickin the competition's ass off road. or just showin up the bigger rigs. i've got a mate with a straight 2.8 and yeh it struggles to get to 120 with 33"s to but it crawls really well and hasn't been stopped yet.

stock as a rock but without a tray i got my 2.8 all the way to 140. one of the longest stretches of downhill straight i could find. one of the scariest moments of my life. never again. not recomended either. if you want to go fast, book with jet star. you end up at a nicer place too.

If ya put 4.88 diff gears in them, It nearly corrects the speedo when you are runing 33's.
I got easy 140 out of mine with turbo at 15psi with 4.88 gears.

yeh same i have 33's, intercooled turbo and 4.88's, ratios are pretty much back to standard and i can easily hit 145km/ph, never tried any faster.

I jst moved to WA and went across the Nullabour, had a full ute/ canopy, towing a 4.35 boat loaded up and could do 120-130 along the flats easily (heat was a issue but).

Thats bloody impressive in a hilux normally let alone towing a tinny full loaded.

ha ha, i once got a good phone call when i was driving in my xr6, tapped the accelorator in joy for like a 5 sec blip. then backed off and slowed down again. hit 145 and happened to go past a copper in that 10 seconds of speeding. doh!
