GQ Starter Motor.

Post by Fmx_Aus »

Gday all,

My starter motor is leaking oil. Is it on the way out? Car still starts well ect.

Looking around I have found one for about $300 posted, and will go have a look around the wreckers on the weekend.

Wont be able to do it for a few weeks, as it still starts well it should be alright??

Thanks a heap, really appreciate all the advice and info been given over the past week or so ;)

starter motors do not have or should not have oil in them.

first :find were the oil is leaking from and getting in to the starter. (any me reseal on the motor)

Second: i you fix the oil leak you can pull the start motor down and clean the oil out and then you will not have to replace it. other wise the sarter will end up burning out.

These are a reduction drive starter that has grease on the gears internally, if it got very hot it may liquify and leak out, although I'd be looking above the starter for an oil leak.

Cheers

Any chance an oil change was done recently? the filters are directly above the starter motor!

TB42 champ. Nah was told by the mechanic that its a seal or something in the fuel pump. As it has engine oil that passed through it or something.
