454 chev in 80 series???
thinking of putting a 454 chev in my 96 80 series has it been done before?
Can be done with no probs if you want to engineer it make sure you get the a post 96 engine as this is what the engineer will want. I have one in my 80 and have done of couple of other 80's with big blocks.
THERES ONLY ONE SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBES AND THATS MORE and if you want more inchs stroke it !!!!!!!!!!!

anyway are you lookin for a crate motor or second hand or what?
you can get after market injection if you dont want the huge injection setup.
i was gunna go for holley pro-injection and wolf 3d computer.
was gunna be around $2000.
just run it on a carby manifold of your choice.
it is real injection so they cant knock it back

thats the full kit, you can get the 4barrel throttle body alone for $500 aus and the wolf 3d computer and wiring harness used to be about $1500
cant get any sense out of the wolf 3d site but ask a good speed shop and they will know what you want. theres probably better ones around these days but they were at the time i was lookin pretty much the best pound for pound

It would depend on the engineer with regard to how flexible he would be with the emission requirements to weather you could use the wolf computer
just because it is efi dosn't mean it will pass an emission test
normally a computer will need to have closed loop control to pass a 1996 emissions test I dont think the wolf has this fully sorted to the point of satisfying an emissions test
You would most likley need an m800 with the lamda upgrade
you need by law to be able to pass the emissions of the original year of manufacture of the engine or the car which ever is the newer of the two
if you go lpg all that goes out the door
this is why so may ac cobras etc are LPG
Or the other trick is get it complied with the dedicated LPG then convert
it to dual fuel after the dust settles but that may be illeagal but sure to get under the radar

but yeah there is plenty of other aftermarket computers out there. one of them will suit!
who knows the wolf may have that side of things sorted now, i havent looked into them for a while now. theres other wolf ecu's available anyway
DO IT MATE!!! the bigger the better, just finished puting a mild carby 454 BB in a gq & well worth the effort, its been in for about a month now & no dramas yet, exept for the diff making a few clunks but you cant have it all i guess, shitloads of balls up the bush & plenty of power on the road...

hey mate, yeah i get around 3-3.5 klms per litre, its around 440 HP running a holley 750 DP, which i only just managed to get 4 klms per litre out of the 4.2 slug,
im not sure what it weighs but the front susspensoin sits the same as what it used to so i dont think its any heavier than the old boat ancor

The ram jet efi was a marine engine and no road vehicle used this induction system, it can be purchased as a bolton coversion with ECU from GM Perfarmance thou and comes on the Ram Jet 502 ( "offroad use only" no emission control ) . The bigblocks that had factory EFI are known as a 7.4 Vortec and that was the engine i had when i first engineered and registered my 80 ute. This engine was used on the 2500 and 3500 GM pickups and in some cab chassis things they built motor homes on.Punchy wrote:yup they are called ram jets

thanks guys... yer your right.. we kept the auto.. we just down stalled the converter because with the amount of torque, if we left the standard one it would come in at 3000 and rip the box to shreds.. the box is handling well.. under heavy load has a little flare into 3rd but goes well.. only recently with kickdown adjustment we got the tps working aswell.. lolg35me wrote:I would say he did as thats a conversion kit from the chev to the auto.raptorthumper wrote:Awesome.!
