A new 4by...... Zook perhaps?

Having decided not to waste $$$ on my feroza I've been looking and thinking about a replacement, and a spook may be the best option I reckon. I really like the idea of being able to do most of the work on it myself with my modest tools I was thinking the following...

1985+ NT hardtop (cheap as possible but NO major cancer) $2 - $2.5k
Panelbeat/ respray myself $500
Offset sunraysias to WT spec $450
RUF (can't weld how much would it cost to get done?) $???????
Body lift 1.5" Won't cost me anything install myself
2nd hand 31 muds for onroad $500
Welded rear $????? at a diff shop???

Essentially I was aiming to get a dd/ weekend warrior with a bit of potential on road for <5k

Then when I sell the feroza add S3 rockhoppers + 33/ 34" play tyres + 1.6 vit motor + small offroad trailer Should be a capable lil' beast then

Thoughts and suggestions/ ideas on missing prices anyone Cheers

That's not a bad plan of attack, and I think you are pretty close to the money (pun intended ) with your $ figures.

You should be able to pick up a basically straight & rust free zook for those $

Rims should cost you $300 (that's what i paid for four 15x8 with -25 offset)

Make some bolt on brackets for the RUF and it wont be too costly. You'll need to source a set of springs and some longer brake lines though. Shocks will be your limiting factor though

You could have a look at these x4 firestone firehawk mtr on brand new rims have about 1000kms on them and they are $550

mmmm good idea I doubt I could make them (safely anyway ) myself but have a mate who could.

Why will shocks limit may I ask? I have no qualms about buying long travel jobs if they're available, it's a cost I'd expect. Anyone recommend a good value option on the shocks [/quote]

Dont expect high price ride quality or life expectancy - but if that dont matter buy them

what is the compressed length? ie are they long travel, or just long shocks? what mount type are they? me thinking 3/4 now tank is out the way. christover

Good move about moving forwards to the zuk's I finally saw the light again and sold my TJ and got a zuk again, still work in progress but its coming along fairly nicely considering I’ve only had it for a week or so.

Anyway I think your right on the money + mods sounds great.

I've also been thinking about welding my rear diff but I’m still not 100% sure on this one. I do know I don't want a open rear when wheeling anymore. Well when on the hills anyway

I'd have to say put a rollbar on ya list as I’ve seen how useless the top hoop is in my zuk ( it was in a accident by a motorbike ) so I’d hate to see the car roll on it.

Springs are further inboard than WT so potentially better travel. Offset rims make up for the WT stability. Plus older/ cheaper = more $$ for mods

Welding your rear is one of those things I guess, you can ummm and ahhhh for ever or take the plunge. I say see what others with it done think of it and take the plunge
