GU Guards not big enough..

Post by k3lst »

Ive got two sets of tyres, one road set 265x17x8 with standard gu rims, and wheelin set is 35x12.5x15 with maximum offset. my prob is that the wheelin set stick out two or three inchs, and therefore are deemed illegal.

My question is does anyone stock any aftermarket guards i can take the old ones off and replace them with?

Regards, K3lst

This post would be more appropriate in the NISSAN TECH SECTION

Your easiest options would be some flares
I know jack about Nissans but I think Landcruiser rims have a larger offset

Whats wrong with this section?? Seems an appropriate question to me!

In the past I have used rubber conveyor belt approx 8-10mm thick and 100mm wide, conveyor belt makes for good strong screw fixing as well.

im interested in giantracings flares, however no offence mate but thats pretty pricy -1500 for a set of 4 that will be the easiest thing to break on the rig??

are there any cheaper options on the market?

i know the black rubber suggestions you guys are giving, and usually id do that but i think the gu needs something more

i custom ordered the max offset to lower the centre of gravity, thus the chance of rolling.

i knew they would stick out, but no where near as much as they do. its only on the wheelin set anyway, its getting from my house to the bush legally with them on thats the problem

Can you please post up pics of the GQ flares. Are these flares designed to bolt in like the orignal flares?

Yeh GU IV and newer front flares are $700 from Nissan @ insurance company prices. Not including the little rubber trim strip which is colour specific or the little clips.

Dunno about the rears.

Your tyres are illegal anyway - why bother with the flares??

Good point. I run 36" Pedes on mine for wheelin' on 1" offset and they stick out, but the tyres are more than 3 inches past being legal anway. Your F*cked either way!

becauselarge tyres that stick out ithot being covered are COP BAIT

large tyres that are covered and flapped will only get done if the copper has nothing better to do.

if they are fiberglass you can fix them easy enough. Glass is good to work with.
Then make your own mould off them and make a few sets to save yourself bux when you wanna replace them.

If you think you can sell them cheaper, then make some money that way to offset the original cost.

How are they illegal if the whole tyre is covered with a flare/guard? there only illegal if they arent covered, and deemed as dangerous.

wait till you get defected, then pay the fine, then sell your 35's to buy 32's to get the defect cleared.

Remember guys for a bit of plastic we are talking somewhere between 50-100,000 for a mould for each flare, they do have to recoup the cost's somehow

there would be aroung 700kg of alloy steel per mould, and roberly 200 hours each in machine time and labour.

Moulds are very time consuming to make and very labour intensive, and there genuine parts so they can charge what they want.
