2.8 to 4.2
2.8 to 4.2
I want to put a 4.2l turobo diesel in my gq, will irt bolt staight on? & whats a rough price of a 4.2 engine.
Did it myself in WA.
About $7k in parts plus fitting and engineer cert minus the price you get for selling your existing engine and g/box.
Expect around a week to do the work.
You need to:
-Get hold of a TD42(T)
-customise mounts
-4.2 gearbox (2.8 isn't strong enough)
-mod + re-balance tail shafts
-motor sits further back so radiator shroud needs modding.
-clutch cable fittings are not interchangeable so need to be modded,
-redo the exhaust system (or at least the dump pipe)
plus some other minor stuff (nuts & bolts & stuff)
-Diff ratios are different too but if you put 35" tyres on they come back to normal (almost)
All in all I think it is worth it if the TD42 is in good cond'n.
Much more capable/stronger vehicle.
