Feroza F300 using more fuel than my 6 cyl Ford falcon!!!!!!

Post by Trent1990 »

Hey guys, new to the forums and just bought myself a feroza hard top as a 2nd car, with a big ally bull bar, 2" lukey cat back exhaust, 30" tyres, pretty decent rig except for he fact that it needs a fuel tanker strapped to the side of it,

i did a trip down south from Perth to Narrogin (bout 220k's) and the thing used over half a tank just getting there, speed limit is 100 all the way and i didn't push it at all, doing the same trip in my falcon i can go there and back (i don't go soft on my falcon either) and still have over a quarter of a tank (falcon tank is 68L)

ive read up that the O2 sensor can usually be deemed faulty if the car tends to "power band" at just over 4000 rpm, this seems to be evident and the thing also wont idle steady at times, but is there another way i can test the sensor before i replace it?

also the carbon cannister, seems to make crackling sounds, is this normal?

If anybody lives in the Perth Western Australia metro area and they know somebody that is really good with diagnostics in feroza's can you let me know please as im really pissed off and seriously regret not buying a Jeep right now, at least the extra fuel would have been outweighed by leather seats and air conditioning

Cheers Guys;

First thing I'd do is work out exactly how much fuel you're using. Fill up, do a trip and fill up again. Then work out your mileage.

Most 4wd's will use more fuel than a sedan.... aerodynamics, weight, usually too small a motor lugging all that weight and working against the crap areodynamics, etc.......

You should get somewhere between 10 and 13l/100km, depending on your driving style, speed, terrain, headwinds, etc.

Have you considered that your speedometer reading isl not accurate because it was calibrated with 27" tires (original factory spec tires) ? You have to multiply your km reading by about 1.12 to get the actual real distance traveled. I think you will find out that your fuel consumption is pretty decent . :)

Mine gets about 9 kms per liter for highway driving.

220 km divided by 30 litres (1/2 a Fez tank @ 60L) equal 7.33km per litre , not the best milage from these beasts most tend to get around 9-10km per litre HOWEVER

your running 30's .. that sucks the power heaps .. when i was running 30's on mine i had crap mileage too, changed to 215x75x15's (about 29 inches) and all good.

Fezs drink fuel over about 95kph, the most ecconomical speed is 90kph

if your cat is blocked fuel useage will almost double, comman symtom is a whistle or a wooshing sound from the exhaust when you hoof it.

Not to mention mine reads under half in about 100km but it stay around there for the next 300km then it will start to drop.

This is another gremlin in these cars as the fuel sender in most the earlier models seems to be dicky

That's interesting, our old car was the opposite. 300km's in the top half of the tank, and about 100 in the bottom half.
I like the sound of yours better.

you know... I never thought of that!!!

My fez is on 31in muddies, 2in lift, extractors and 2in exhaust all the way (factory cat)
I currently get about 7.6-7.9km/L BUT the speedo is out exactly 10%, (I normally Drive at 90, which is really 100 on the GPS)

If I am right.. that means I should add 10% more km on my trip meter before I calculate my fuel usage???
