GU vibration after clutch replacement

Hi Guys

I have a strange problem with my 5th gear.

2000 GU II 4.2 Man

Everything was great and needed a new clutch.

Got a 4Terrain put in a few weeks ago and everything seemed ok.

At idle there is a slight vibration but not too much to worry about.

I had not been on a freeway for a while and driving around town is fine.

Got onto the freeway and noticed that 5th vibrates when under load.

Do you think this could be caused by the new clutch?
A possible 5th gear issue woken up by having the gearbox out?
Or somthing the mechanic has done?

If for some reason it is the clutch, would there be any way of covering the labour to get the box out with the clutch warranty?

Mate... if the problem wasent there when u drove in but is there when u drove out then u should go back to the person who did the work and tell them about the problem... asap... dont leave it for weeks and hope the problem goes away

its getting a good going over tomorrow.

I hope its doent point to the 5th gear.

Could have had it done when the box was out the 1st time.

fingers crossed that its something external to the gearbox.

Could be the tail shaft is 180 degrees out and thus out of balance to where it was before.

thats standard for those 4terrain clutches there bad for vibrations.

Really? bugger, i didnt read that anywhere when deciding between the 4terain and safari.

The tail shaft was on the cards soon to have the unis done and a balance.

Could the clutch or tailshaft cause this only in 5th gear?

Im hoping so because I dont want it to be the gear box

If its the clutch I dont know if I can handle that on a long trip.

well depends if its speed related or gear related. generaly if it where the clutch it would be there in all gears because its always spinning at the same speed. although would be eaisier to notice in 5th because its quiter and smoother. most likely t/shaft is out of alignment and only notice at high speeds. could also be phantom vibration!!!! people tend to notice/worry about there cars alot more after work is done on them! every little noise/bang/squeal/vibration makes people paranoid to the point of thinking s**ts hit the fan and the worlds gonna end. depends how bad the vibration is. maybe check the g/box mounts are tight as well

I know what you mean by phantom. You do listen to things alot more when work has been done.

This is to the point that I would almost not use 5th.

The mechanic changed the unis today. They were on the list to do anyway.

Not sure if it improved a tiny bit, but its still there.

See how we go tomorrow.

Hi Guys

Replacing the unis helped a little. So the next day we got the tail shaft balanced also, which did not help.

Also replaced the Slave.

My mechanic rang clutch industries again and spoke to a different person.
They described the problem to my mechanic exactly. They then said it was most likely the preasure plate.

Now we need to take it all out and let them look at it. They wil then give us the money back on a new one.

Only problem is they will only give about $200 to my mechanic towards labour.
