Landcruiser PTO interchangeability

Post by turbo4t »

I'm looking at a Landcruiser PTO here off a 60 series. I'm guessing the PTO unit will fit any 40/60 or 75 4sp/5sp or auto gearbox from 1980 - 1990 and any HZJ with the H55F 5 speed. Can anyone confirm this? I know the pre '80 transfer bolt up is completely different. Thanks

ive seen pto winches that are different widths.. even one off a 60 (supposedly) that wouldn't fit on another 60.

does the pto have a cradle? can you measure the width between the rails to confirm what it will fit?

oh.. and are you talking about the PTO box that bolts to the transfer or the entire thing?

A pto for a H55F will not fit to all those models. I don't think 40s camo out with the same transfer. That being said a 40 pto can be modified to work on a h55f transfer case.

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

Post 1980 40's had the same transfer. The front halves varied between 4 and 5 speeds and the output shaft length varied for the 45/47 handbrake but the back casings which carry the pto are the same. Cheers.

the ones that dont have the pto drive have a plate covering the hole that the drive bolts on to
sorry not sure about interchangeabilty but the shaft is differnt between the 40s and the 60s i know thats an easy fix but it is something to be aware of

I just replaced my TC.. The original had a spacer, the replacement had a gear.. Both built in the same year, 78.. I have a 73 that I was going to use as a replacement, it has the gear also.. 2 of 3 had the gear.. All I need now is the rest of the setup..

If the PTO box os off a 60 then it will fit the last of the 40,s The 60,s the 75,s and the first of the 79,s. The 80,s had a different TC and so did the later 79,s

Just have a look at the PTO cover and it will be very easy to see if its the one for you.

all the best wit it.
