commodore v6/auto in a lux how do they go ?
lookin at various engine options for a hilux and although id love the gen 3 for a budget ive noticed that a lot of people are putting commodore v6's and autos in the older luxes - just wondering how they go with larger tyres etc - prob look at stepping up to 35/36's in the future so wouldnt want to waste my money on a motor transplant option that wont turn em or runs too fast for slow crawling.

the buick commodore v6 is easy to keep cool, cheap, light and fairly powerful.
With the right ratio combinations and tyre sizes you can make it how u want.
Rekit the trans b4 u put it in as the commodore slushbox is the first thing to go...
Ive seen full conversions done properly for 2k...

i had the v6 commo setup in my old lux running the standard G52 five speed gearbox i went threw 3 gearboxs and 1 diff but it depends on how u drive i was towing a fair bit of weight with mine. they are thirsty on fuel mine used about 17litres per 100kms
if i was going to do the conversion again i'd run 4.88 diff gears to run 35's and reduction gears in the transfer

If your considering the v6 id go a step further and look at the 304 5.0L. Same fuel economy from what i can tell, and the 304 will make a lot more low down torque.
Ive just gone from 308 on gas to 304 injected in my 86 single cab and so far i am getting 16 litres/100km, stays cool all the time even with these stinkin hot days we are having. Picked the motor up for $1650 with everything you need.
Also if your looking at autos the gearing will pose a problem for you as it did for me, the autos tend to want to run away from you down hill which is frickin scary as, reduced gearing in the transfer solved that for me.
I think it depends on your budget, im sure you will see a lot of guys on here have lots of success with the 3rzfe motors too, they are bullet proof motors and are not too expensive to do either. Doing the v8 is always going to add a fair bit more cost onto your project
Cheers

Just a quick question.... what motors are the 3rz & 3rzfe out of and whats the difference.... I'm guessing a later model hilux and turbo/non turbo??? And these would be a 3ltr engine??? Just guessin though!!
Mate of mine has an 85 4runner and looking at doing a conversion somewhere down the track, so still considering options atm. Cheaper and easier the better.... but anythings got to be better than the old 2.4 deisel in it now!!!

When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!
3RZ is what people shorten it to 3RZ-FE is the full engine code like a 1UZ is a 1UZ-FE etc.brighty wrote:Just a quick question.... what motors are the 3rz & 3rzfe out of and whats the difference.... They are a 2.7 twin cam efi 4cyl petrol. They came in Hiluxs both 2wd and 4wd from late 97 on. They changed to a different efi system around 02 and I believe to VVTI from around 05. They are a great motor and as said above a very cheap conversion, Id put one in before a commo 6 everytime.

I've got the 304 injected as well. Thursty damn yes, forgot to add the speed sensor, 25-30 ltrs per 100kms and yes i no that is way to much, but that what it is doing (untill i fix the f#$ker).Ryan_006 wrote:If your considering the v6 id go a step further and look at the 304 5.0L. Conversion kit $$$ are damn close wether or not is V6 or V8, the only diff i found was the engine. V6 would give you more engine bay room.

Second that. They are a good strong motor that can handle some boost as wellbooflux wrote:3RZ is what people shorten it to 3RZ-FE is the full engine code like a 1UZ is a 1UZ-FE etc.brighty wrote:Just a quick question.... what motors are the 3rz & 3rzfe out of and whats the difference....
