One thing worth checking though - is the breather hose from the rocker cover to the aircleaner housing blocked?. Mine would get all glugged up and the engine would get smokey. Clearing the hose stopped the smokey engine, I'm guessing it was preasurizing the rocker cover and pushing oil past the old valve stem seals.

definitiely. I've never seen a sierra with extractors that smoked.

while your at it, have your thought about spoa or spua?
this will depend on where you live and the terrain and your cog, what size tyres you want and if your willing to chop the guards or a princess and cant stand the idea of cutting a perfectly good zook becuase you might de-value it?
remember just like fire safety. keep low and go go go!
ps you need an SR20DET !! HELL YEAH

Mine has done 18 years on the last re-ring, burns a little oil but goes strong, most reliable vehicle I have ever had.muppet_man67 wrote:don't bother with a rebuild. if it runs. then all is good seriously. Im yet to see a rebuilt 1 liter engine run reliably for more then 12 months. drive it till it dies then replace with a turbo injected f6a
18 years
1x re ring
1x gearbox rebearing
3x radiator
4x battery
2x timing belts
really? wow. what kind of driving do you do. high revs on highways tend to be a killer for them.rustyvit wrote:Mine has done 18 years on the last re-ring, burns a little oil but goes strong, most reliable vehicle I have ever had.muppet_man67 wrote:don't bother with a rebuild. if it runs. then all is good seriously. Mostly around town, all highway driving was at 105km and a whole lot of beach dune work.muppet_man67 wrote:

Having said that, I only put 1 dent in the bumper in 20 years, sold it to a guy 4 weeks ago and he has already rolled it.

Guys/Girls/Unknown's,
Whilst in the past there have been a number of posts made by a particular member that would be considered a waste of time. He's now trying to do the right thing and is asking a sensible question.
Please keep this on track.

Valve stem seals go hard and just become "valve stem bits of rubber".
The oild rings also seem to get pretty clagged up when running cheaper oil.
I have rebuilt two of em, one I have no idea what happened to it, the other one I know did at least another 30,000 before being sold. Prior to rebuild it would use about 500mls of oil per tank..
Post rebuild it used about 100mls between services .. that was without a rebore.
Purely a re-ring (pistons hot tanked ... they were very sludged up, I could not get the oil control rings out of a couple of them till after a dunk in the tank) and new bearings/seals etc.
