There was a certain degree of self steering in the rear suspension control rod geometry. eg when turning left, weight transfer would push the right hand rear wheels slightly further apart and pull the left hand rear wheels slightly closer together, so the rear axles actually turned into the corner without tyre scrub. The truck could be operated in 6x2, 6x4 or 6x6 mode, but in practice I always drove it in 6x4 mode on hard surfaces because there was negligable windup between the rear diffs.

I don't think Daddylonglegs pops up on here any more, but yes, AFAIK it was a copy of the scammel "walking beam" suspension.

he was posting on lr4x4 not too long ago. but havent seen him for a while. doesnt he travel overseas now and then????

shame he left here, such good down to earth engineering and tech... always looking outside the box to.

I haven't heard from him for some time. IIRC he has spoken a few times about moving to Vietnam.
