G13ba engine help, reving high. and squeak from back axle

Post by VaJJ »

hey yeah i was wondering if anyone could help me with my sierra engine, its a 89 sierra with the G13ba motor, first IT IS NOT THE IDLE.
every now and then after driving for a few minutes the engine decides to rev around the 2000rpm mark, when you push in the clutch it will stay at 2000, tapping the accelerator doesnt work, it turns off fine and starts fine and idles normal but after driving for a bit does it again, seems like at the carby it dosnt fully close so yeah does anyone know the problem? thanks.

ha i just had that problem with a zuk i put a motor into, after it warmed up it would sit at 2k like yours as well

i fixed it with a couple of cans of carby clean and holding it wide open spraying the cleaner in till it bogged then stop spraying till the motor picked up then spray again, after that i filled the float bowl with cleaner and sprayed some into the carby with the motor off, let it sit for 10min then done the whole process over and over till there was no more cleaner, the 1.3 runs like a top now

ok so was that straight in the top of carby?, also been hearing a kind of metal grind squeak while turning hard corners and accelerating (like a round about) sounds like its coming frome the back axle but havent had a chance to look at it, only started today not that bad,

straight down the carby wide open throttle with it running, she will sound like she doesn't like it and may cut out a few times but just keep at it and it will come good, i think gunk builds up under the butterfly's stopping them from closing properly the carb cleaner takes that all away
mind you it makes alot of black smoke when your doing it so in a well vented area is a good place

it's hard to diagnose noise without actually being there, your best bet is to either get a mate to sit in the back and listen to it, or take it to a trusted mechanic

grinding noises are when something is turning with force on it like a bearing under load that's worn out,

squeaks are generally from sway bar bushes leaf and shackle bushes that are worn out,

like i said you really need to be there to hear it to get where its coming from

yeah, got mates but i just dont trust their mechanic diagnostics, they always think they are right and rarely are, but since its a soft top the sound travels freely and sounds like the passenger side rear wheel, only happens now a bit in frist when taking off quickly and a bit in second.
