hi all my rear brakes on my nissan gq tray back are getting very hot even after 20 min drive the left side is leakig oil not much but just wondering whats causeing them to lock on

Yup, very common for the rears to seize on GQ's.. Not a hard job to rebuild, but if your unsure, run into ABS or similar.IPCH wrote:Seems to me that your calliper has siesed and draging on the disc. I think also from memory on the GQ, there are different levels of kits.. some come with the piston, some dont... the piston is FAWKIN expensive (going back 4yrs memory here).. so check it before you buy it.

Do Not Use Oil!!! It will swell the seals, use brake fluid only
Brake fluid is what i was trying to say ,sorry if i confused anyone , When i said oil , i would of thought it was obvis i ment brake fluid. Sorry will check my wording more carfully next time ,

Yes and No...., just pull the spring off the diff and it wont do any thing any more.. but not likely the problem... it will be your calliapers causing the problem....
the seals around the piston would have gone hard and not alowing the piston to return correctly, and i would say your caliaper slides will be sticking as well, all common problems with patrols

If they are really seized, which is common then you'll need to pop the piston out with the brake pedal. ie pop one side, clamp off the that hose and then pop the other. If they are like this then you'll need new istons as well.
I just spent $235 (NZ) to put pistons and seal kits into all four corners. Well worth the time and money to have all fours corners working perfectly.
Another tip is to use a lot of rubber grease on the inside of the rubber boot. It helps keep shit out of there and makes the piston last longer.
