ive just purchsed a new highmount and the brake is not working when winching in underload, and stop the winch it just freespools back out, the brake componet on the side can be moved back and forth by hand ( im thinking this is not normal ) and just wondering whats wrong with it, and before every one says just take it back, i purchased the winch from the states when i had hoilday thier earlier this year,

Hi rob. there is normally a little bit of play in the brake but depends on how much. It might sound silly but are you feeding the cable out from the bottom of the winch because that is the direction it is supposed to go and the brake won't work if it is not. hope this helps. Cheers, Kane.

thanks kane, i had a message from wayne smith (Smithy jnr) and he had the same idea, the winch cable was on the right way, but the small leaver at the back of the brake, was out of tension, once it was all tensioned up it worked like a treat, once again, thanks wayne for the phone call
