I went to the 2005 GC 4wd show, had a guy using one of these and he was showing off to the SES.bogged wrote:good if you need to winch in a straight line, but what happens when you cant hook onto a tree infront of you?'
there was a thread on EO yrs back, the bloke from bush winch went and did a demo at a club, and it wasnt all rosey... infact, people were leaving apparently before he finished and he didnt sell any!
but if it makes ya happy
PS, I agree with grimbo on the ruts, some of the ones I've been stuck in, dynamite would struggle to break it up...
I see this as a major flaw.zagan wrote: The rope not holding and letting go right next to the 4wd.
Letting go on a hill, etc.
The winch wheel breaking off or binding up the main wheel.
The rope binding up on the wnich wheel.
The rope going under another wheel.
The winch pulls on 1 wheel which pulls the 4wd off in a angle.
The rope rubbing against another wheel.
Plus more stuff
need a manual cruise control unitraptorthumper wrote:Bruce, that's no good.
Since i put the manual in mine the cruise doesn't work either. I think i can fix it though. To get the starter motor to crank, i had to put a jumper on two wires so the ECU thinks it's in neutral.
All i need to do is fit a switch, (bit of a pain though) so that i can select the jumper that makes the ECU think it's in Drive for cruise to work, and back to neutral so i can start it.
My issue seems to spool when going backwards, that you will end up with a mass bunch of rope on one side, which could be a bitch, specially if its a long winch (100ft or so)raptorthumper wrote:Not one comment on the ATV youtube video.![]()
What about the guy lifting his quad in the air.A bit risky i know.
i didn't know "lightly stuck" and "lockers" went in the same sentence? haharaptorthumper wrote:The idea is to use two wheels in most cases.Stoive wrote: how do you get around cross axleing with open centre diffs if you are only able to winch off one wheel?
If you are only lightly stuck. (not deep mud etc) and you have lockers you could fit to one wheel only, like the youtube video on ATV wheel winches.

thats bad karma, cause you know one day you will be stuck by yourself and you will be thinking should I get that 100meters of telstra rope out and wrap it around my wheels now......Ben wrote:
But on a 4x4? If you ask me it's the stupidest idea ever!
also its not the stupidest idea everBen wrote:ATV maybe, but even then an electric winch wins hands down.

why do you need lockers , if you look into the product properly, it is 1 rope that runs between both wheels, negates the need for a locker.Z()LTAN wrote:u must know then that if you want to use this winch, you need to have lockers aswell...
wont work otherwise...
