Haven't done many k's on it (8000 maybe?) but i'm still very happy with it. Others who have driven the car have also been impressed.
if yer interested in my feedback i'm happy with the exedy hd clutch to date. no issues, slips, noises or anything.. done about 6000kms on it. have swapped it over to a new donk and its holding up.. and its hot pink!bogged wrote:HOw is it now??? Still having trouble with inconsistant product with the 4 terrain. Some days you get one brand clutch plate, the next time you get a different one
We still fit Safari Tuff's, unless the customer has there heart set on 4 terrain.

Friend had the same problem as you LOCKEE, he just put up with it and the clutch only lasted him a little while (<12 months), when it was pulled out there was a big wear mark on the fingers and they had started to bend. Mind you, it probably has more to do with his driving/maintenance style rather than the actual product, but something to think about for anyone else experiencing the problem when fitting HD clutches to GQ's.LOCKEE wrote:Advice so far has been -

I recently had a bad experience with a 4terrain clutch in my Hilux with 2.8 and turbo on 32s. After 13 months and 20,000km of normal use with no towing, it started to play up. Warranty period is 12 months. So I took it to a shop to see if it was the clutch or otherwise. The pedal would not engage / disengage the gears, and turns out the metal had broken away outside one of the springs in the plate. The spring was loose in there and jamming things up. There was very little wear on the actual clutch.
I had asked this 4x4 shop, on the West side of Brisbane to ring me when they had it out to show me the problem, with the intention of getting 4terrain involved to see what could be done. However, without phoning me they put in a Safari and called me that afternoon to pick it up. So with no opportunity to supply a new one while it was out, 4terrain were not interested in doing anything further. They did send it to their engineering department in Melbourne, but after 3 months of following up they had 'lost' it.
In my experience, don't bother paying extra for a 4terrain as they are rubbish and their customer service from the state manager is polite but still leaves a lot to be desired. He did offer to look after me next time I needed a 4terrain clutch.... And as for that shop, they used to get my business.
Safari is going fine, and feels pretty similar in weight and take up.

Often you will have to adjust the pushrod under the dash on the clutch due to a new clutch and different diaphram spring heights. Having used both over the years we have shifted towards the Safari, the main reason being the 4terrain tends to vacuumize after 20 000 kls or so making disengagement, getting into gear difficult. This can be remedied by drilling 6mm holes through each of the organic paddles, in the middle, as this allows air to flow under the clutch plate to the flywheel and disengage from both the pressure plate and flywheel.

In the 1hz 80 the 4terrain had 980ft/lbs of holding power which was abit higher than the safari when i was looking so that is why i needed up getting it. Still don't think that is enough tho but I only have the 11inch flywheel which is the problem.
