Tyres... size or compound?

Post by Nev62 »

Had a quick chat to someone today who is of the opion when talking of tyres, "size dosen't matter". I was thinking of 34" coopers but as it was pointed out, whats the point of big tyres when gearing ratio is still the same. Better off with a sticky 31" or 32" in a standard setup. What says yous????????? :?

diff clearance comes with greater tyre diametre, and greater tyre width give more gripping area.... and they just look good
Rum injected

TD42T shorty... got some bolt on and some custom stuff.

another reason bigger is better is when crawling, a small tyre will drop into holes more easily and struggle more to get out of them. it will also have more difficulty getting over obstacles. compage a skateboard wheel trying to climb up a curb to a bicycle tyre rolling over the curb. bigger tyres, if you have enough hamsters to turn them, will always be better. don't be afraid to cut.

The other two posts pretty much nailed it - larger tyres give more diff clearance, and can climb obstacles better - if you have the grunt to turn them!
