40series - front speaker placement

I'm looking for ideas on where I can fit some speakers in the front of an FJ45. It's a ute, so only have the front cab to work with. If you've done it, where'd you put them? Pictures are always nice...

mine are at the front bottom of each door - the bit you probably kick every time you get in and out... no photos sorry. Worked well there as there is plenty of room without fouling glass. overhead console would work

What size did you get in there?
I have a set of 4" and 6x9" sitting here, but would consider buying a 5" or 6" set if these are the biggest I can fit.

Mounted some JVC 6" Splits on my doors with those pre made pods you can buy.

Not on my 40 but I used to have a Subaru Brumby with the same problem.

I ended up making a tower that sat between the two seats up against the rear cabin wall and had 2 6x9s mounted vertically.

It was bolted to the floor and stuck to the rear of the cab with industrial velcro. I used to hammer down some knarly fire trails in that thing and it never moved.

Otherwise I would look at a roof console that sat behind your head rather than over the windscreen and mount the speakers there. No floor space lost, nice and high out of the way, could easily fit an amp in there too.

my 45 has speakers in the overhead console and a pair behind the seat,well thats how previous owner set them up,only heard the console ones work

I think I'm going to go with 4"'s in the doors, and put the two 6 x 9's under the passenger seat - I've got these speakers lying around already from a previous vehicle.

You would be best to use the same setup as Twisty. Pods with 6" splits. Try to get pods that don't stick out too far though as they will bump on your legs and become annoying. Run the splits off an amp and at least you will always hear the music and won't bust the speakers. I went through 3 sets of 6x9's before going to spilts and haven't looked back.

Gday, if u have the doors with the quater glass u wont need pods. I have pods for my 6 inch splits in my doors,i dont have quater glasses. Also have 6x9s in the overhead console and 12'"inch sub under seat, putting another in soon.. It get pretty loud in there haha. Well enough to make all the other annoying rattles go away.

I'm not planning anything that extreme like yours but. Just wanted some speakers there for a bit of tunes. The utes not driven very often, as I've got a supercharged XR6 for my daily driver.

I'm going to go with the 4"'s in the door (although I've found 2 6" speakers now, so might get some spacers and use them rather) and 6 x 9's under the seat for a bit of bass increase.

Bit of plywood and white sheeting. Keep head unit and speakers up there so wiring is contained. Also a sweet place to hide things when camping.

But I really did it so I could keep the original AM radio

I fitted a 10" sub in the overhead console.

Yes, yes I am. Different to my 42. Lucky bastard...

The reason I like the pods is that is gets a bit of the speaker out of the door. Given that water will go inside the door when it rains, it offers a little less of the speaker to be water affected. It is also easier to then apply some plastic sheeting over the speaker to further stop water getting into it.

Since those 6x9's fit, definatley keep em until they blow. Try not to get too much bass from them though as you won't hear the distortion that leads to the damage due to cabin noise, tyres, rattles, missus bitching etc.

My kick vents have been welded shut, since someone used them to break in and steal my last stereo
So i made kick panels for my front speakers. My 6x9s are behind the seats mounted in a 12mm mdf panel.
