I've got to get a roadworthy done on my 1969 FJ45. It doesn't have a front bar on it at the moment, did this come out fitted with one, I assume they would have. Anyone have a photo of how they came out factory so I can see what I need to get/make.

BTW - anyone able to give me a rough idea on what a bullbar would cost? I looked at an ARB one, not for this vehicle, but it was $1,600ish, is that about right?
Yeah, a mate is going to get me a 4" C beam and well just whack that on the front, 2 bolts into the chasis rails (there's already 2 holes there) and that should be fine for a while at least I reckon.
Even if you found an original bumper, it would still require the mounting plates which are riveted to the chassis and make the bumper protrude another few inches forward, allows the bottom of the c-channel to clear the spring hangers at the front. Most bullbars are designed with these brackets in mind also, so will save you much headaches just making a new bumper instead of trying to retrofit an ARB or the sort. However quite a few manufacturers have made bullbars that bolt straight to the chassis like yours. I have one of them, but its a real challenge finding them, best stop at the wreckers.

I got an ARB winch for my HJ45 6months ago from a sunshine coast supplier and it cost me $790.00. Can email pics but don't know how to post up here. I had to wait for ARB to do a run of 45/40 bars but maybe it was good timing for me as I only had to wait 2-3 weeeks.
Can probably get a winch bar made like this for a fair bit cheaper then the ARB ones next year. Thinking of doing a run of them after mine is finished and we work out if any minor changes are needed.
Might not be technically legal in most states due to it not covering the whole of the front tyres. But most neat looking bars you see on 40 series dont anyway.

I reckon I'm going to go and do this. I drove past a truck and 4WD wrecker the other day, and he had heaps of bars lying there. Should be that hard to find one in similar sizing and then just make up some mounts for it.

is it just me or does that bar look like a " miniature" version of the origional size?
it looks like it needs to be bigger, ( fatter) its a sweet looking design though.

I know what you are saying, but less is more, I really like it, and small, tight, compact, so it doesn't rob ground clearance, approach angle, airflow, and the looks from the 40 grille.
Plus if you have a body lift you could use it with a tilt front end by the looks of it...
So, the first picture in my first post is my ute and how it was. The other week a mate and myself found an aluminium bull bar in a back paddock of a friend of his fathers, who said we could have it (no idea what it is originally off). A bit of modifying and here's the result:
Not a perfect fit, but you can't complain when it's free now can you!?! I'm looking at cutting off and lowering the 2 side top pipes as they block the top of the headlights and indicators. It'll do for now though.
I need to go and get some rectangular driving lights now to go in the middle.
Why shouldn't it pass roadworthy with this bar?
Is it because of the outer hoops
