wat turbo would be recomended, is there a bolt on kit avaliable.
by turboing it would produce more torque than the 1600 engine swap.

The T28 came off the Nissan SR20 engine. The late model roller bearing ones are the turbo of choice.
Seeing these are off a 2Litre engine I would expect a bit of lag from a 1.3 before it spooled up. Probably not the best for low RPM off roading, you would loose torque. Of course there would be more torque in the higher RPM if all you want is to race the rice boys.
Easiest way to turbo match is to look for a turbo that handles around the same capacity of 1.3L. Usually factory turbos are undersized for the engines they are made for so going for something off a 1.6 is probably a better option.
It all comes down to what you want the car for. Answer that question and then find an appropriate turbo to match.
Danny (Zuker) has successfully mounted a WRX turbo to his 1.5L Zook.
Ask him about how it handles both on and offroad.
There is always the option to supercharge, plenty of torque right from idle but will loose it in the top end.

But if you get the Gti short block and keep the 8 V head, add a cam grind, a freeflow and a better carb 1600 valves if you want the icing, and you will have a motor that revs like a banshee and grunts as well.

I have a t3 of either z18 of fj20 there is a fair bit of lag does not do much till just before 3g but after that hold on. standard g13 still holding together, I reckon a t28 would be perfect I would not go smaller because the turbo is only for highway work anyway and if I ever find a 1.6 bottom end for the right price the turbo will still be ok.
As far as i know there isnt a bolt on kit for a turbo install.

Driveability is awesome and offroad is unreal.

We installed a turbo onto my gti engine.
Pretty easy job
Hardest part was the making of the manifold.
If i get enough interest i could look at getting a few more made.
Intercooler is really not required unless you want spastic horsepower and not to mention its hard to fit. I didnt put one in cause there wasnt enough room.
Things you will need:
Custom Manifold
Aftermarket ECU
Oil and coolant lines for the turbo
New fuel pump - depends on what you already have but any of the Bosch pumps suitable for efi, most common one is off a VL commodore
Pipework for the air intake for the turbo and air discharge from the turbo
Blow off valve
Boos Gauge
Good mechanic
By far the hardest part is the manifold and pipework. The rest is pretty easy. Wiring up aftermarket ECU on either a GTI or Vitara engine is really really easy. I used a EMS Stinger as they are around $1000 and do the job nicely. Check it out at http://www.enginemanagementsystem.com

You can buy Aftermarket turbo GTi Manifolds these days as well. Dunno price though it's worth searching first rather than making your own.
Hmmm... someone posted some shots of their red EFI turbo Sierra a while back if you wanna do a search for it.
