I'm after an arb for the front of my 1996 gq patrol.
does anyone know what the differance is between a rd136 and a rd04
Both are for 31 spline h233's but one is nearly double the price of the other?

ARB's
The world’s most highly regarded traction aid, an ARB Air Locker is a driver controlled locking differential originally designed to give serious 4 wheelers the traction needed to combat extreme off road terrain. When extra traction is required, the driver activates the Air Locker via a convenient dash mounted switch. Pneumatic pressure supplied by an on board air compressor engages ARB’s patented locking mechanism within the Air Locker, thus preventing the wheels from turning independently. The Air Locker is deactivated by flicking a switch, returning the differential to normal.

1 Only suitable for differentials with 12mm crown wheel bolts.
2 Refer to dealer or check spline count to determine axle type.
Looks like the rd04 is for an MQ, which I would say being less popular and more expensive.

the rd 136 is the new locker brought out by arb . there are new o rings in there compared to the old lockers . the new ones have had the o ring machined down so the bearing does not interfer with the seal . an its operated on the oppisate side compaired to the old one . got one in my gq and have had no dramas with it
Which one have you got the old one or the new?in24bn wrote:the rd 136 is the new locker brought out by arb . there are new o rings in there compared to the old lockers . the new ones have had the o ring machined down so the bearing does not interfer with the seal . an its operated on the oppisate side compaired to the old one . got one in my gq and have had no dramas with it
Has any one suffered an old type one failing?
That list was pretty out of date. They stopped making RD09s (only difference with RD78A was thrust block in the middle, which you do or don't use depending on if it's in GQ or GU), now I think they've turfed they RD78A as well.
As stated the 136 has it's seal housing and everything on the opposite side of the diff now. Whether that's a good thing only time will tell. I've never seen an O ring get "chewed out" by a bearing... Ashbilt has fitted about a million of them he may have an opinion.
Ash fitted my front (RD09) and rear (RD24) and have never had any grief with them.
