chev diesel into gu
chev diesel into gu
am looking to get a gu wagon for my next car, and after driving the father in laws cruiser with a 6.5 chev diesel in it, am pretty keen to do the same.
are the 4.2s,3.0s,2.8s all the same besides the donk, if so will then find a cheapo and put the chev in it.
has anyone done this willing to shed some light on the subject
cheers

Re: chev diesel into gu
conversion is $23,000 drive in drive out when I was quoted 3 odd yrs ago. The g'box will need re-enforcingTHICKNICK wrote:am looking to get a gu wagon for my next car, and after driving the father in laws cruiser with a 6.5 chev diesel in it, am pretty keen to do the same.

Think long and hard about it.
Also search for Duramax and Alison Auto on here.. MUCH MUCH MUCH better conversion....
Not too sure the Duramax fits in...? Could be mistaken, but I thought it was a little long.
I put the 6.5 into my GU. LOVE IT! Does cost a bit of coin to get it done by a shop (I used Brunswick Diesel). I would do it again, as they have given me good after sales service.
The gear box does not require any work. There are two options to fix the gearing to suit the Chev - either replace the 5th gear for a different ratio, or swap the diff centres out (front & rear). I went for the diff option, and Brunswick swapped them out for fully rebuilt units (the original rear diff on the ZD30 is a different size and you can't just do the diff centre, you need to replace the whole unit).
To do the conversion yourself, I would look at the 2.8 or 4.2 as the donor. There is less electrics to remove/bypass than the ZD30 (you still need the computer to do other things in the chassis/cab).
Did I mention I LOVE it?! A lot of coin though! $23k plus transport from Sydney to WA and back (the engine was blown, so that was my excuse for the missus).

2000 GU II, 6.5L Chev Diesel (ex ZD30), lift, bar+winch, rear bar, drawers, fuel tanks I need a personal loan to fill... most of the regular touring gear.
yes they will fit, Heath however has had quite a bit choped out of the firewall and re-plated behind it. Mainly to fit a 4" dump pipe and for better weight distribution.bogged wrote:it fits. Heath has one in his runnin 12second 1/4's.
It will fit in a standard bay but will be tight.
Also would be more than $23000

Go the brunswick,I did this conversion 15000 k ago, awesome difference.
12L/100k towing or not
$24000 drive in and out,my zd30 had a u/s fuel pump and they still gave me $4000 for it.
Diff pinions + ring gear changed to petrol ratio(3.9 I think).
1950rpm at 110kph.
2.8 G/Box is the only one not up to the task,3 + 4.2 box are the same and can handle it.
Hope this is helpful
