G60 Patrol CV Swap

Post by DieselBoy »

Hi guy's, I haven't posted on this site for ages!!!!!!

I am running a G60 front axle in my Trials/Club Class Winch Challenge Truck and have hit a wall.

I had only one spare CV for the axle, and now its in the truck, so i don't have a spare anymore.

I have been doing some investigating, and it sounds like you can swap the MK/MQ CV's, and swivel housings onto the G60 axle.

Can anyone confirm that it can be done before i go stripping stuff apart???

Apparently you can pull the G60 Cv's of the G60 axle shafts, and fit the MK/MQ cv's onto the them, and then fit the MK/MQ swivel housings onto the G60 axle.

I have already made a disc brake set up for the g60 axle, so the only reason i would be doing this is for the availability of CV joints, as i can't find any G60 one's anywhere over here in NZ!!!!!

This is the truck, its home built, with its appearence based on an MB Jeep

Also runing the G60 Transfercase on the back of a THM400 trans cause its fawkin strong :D

Yep, It can be done.

You need to seperate the inner axles at the CV and use the MQ outer inner axles and hub assemblies. You will also need to swap to a MQ Brake Master.

PM if you need to know more

You can bolt the MQ diff straight in !! But looking at your pick I don't think that will be a option.

G60 CV'S

Post by BLUE MQ »

Hi you could also just pull out the G60 diff and put MQ/MK diff's straight back in, that way you would have disc brakes already on. Might be a bit easyer than converting G60 to disc. the MQ/MK diffs bolt straight under, only thing you have to do is lathe out the center of the flange where the tailshaft bolts on, also redrill tailshaft bolt holes. I have done this conversion on my old G60, i did front and rear diffs, made stopping the old girl alot better. Hope this might be some help.

As I noted above YES you can do a direct swap. The easier way is to buy some MQ tailshafts and seperate at the uni (G60 amd MQ/MK run the same uni) Also you need to use the MQ bake master cyl.

However Dieselboy has a highly modifed G60 front diff (looking at the photo) I see coil springs etc. Would be alot more work for him to change to a whole new diff.
