sounds like my 40,if its got brake fluid might need to bleed the brakes,my old bj 42 has been sitting around and its brakes have also faded, took a lot of pumping the brakes for it to only just work, its low on fluid, its a parts car as its rusted beyond being salvageable,i got it to put the disc front end, well both diffs and power steering onto my 60,s era fj40 with 327 chev, but ive been slack cause i got a 45 with 350 chev and 400 auto,so been mucking round with that instead, are u wanting to fix your drums or upgrade to a disc front end?

Check fluid level, bleed, adjust brake pads - if the pads worn/out of adjustment they will need to be pumped up to work even if there is no air in the fluid. Depending on how long since the last adjustment, the adjusters may be seized, see how you go.

disc brakes will give better stopping performance, especially with the v8,but there are other ways to upgrade to disc brakes,i can barely turn my 76 45 definatly need to invest in power steering, sports steering wheels and manual steerig makes driving a pita at times, lol
