On another note re taking the sport forwards, i think it would be a good idea to have The Tuff Truck Officials prepare and send out a survey to all the different 4wd clubs accross Aus, & do a national ad & press campaign in magazines etc and ask the question -

WHAT DO PEOPLE REALLY WANT FROM & WHAT DO THEY REALLY WANT TO SEE AT TUFF TRUCK

Food for thought

Thanks High Roller,

I appreciate any & all feedback - especially POSITIVE!

I did speak with Sam Overton last year & offered to help!

Finaly Events might be getting the idea Screw the rego get over it

Get some strong guide lines for building a truck and get on with it before the sport dies for good.

No buggies!

Recognisable rigs a must!!!!!!

After taking on board feedback from several people on several fronts, TTC management brought forward it's regular "legal health check" of all aspects of the event from TEP's own solicitor. It's my hope that organisers of other 4WD comps will have a good look at this issue as the rego related aspect is serious stuff when investigated.

As a Park owner this is quite worrying. I have always thought that the rego scheme was flawed but have always thought we may be covered by the comp separate insurance. The "can of worms" worries me. If you can shed any light on this it would be good and if possible this should be in the public domain if you can share it. I assume that what you are saying that even though the comp organiser may have their own insurance this is based on the fact that he/she has said to the insurer that the vehicles are registered...therefore the insurance assumption is flawed and probably not based on the correct facts....ie most of the comp cars would not be insured once an insurance company had assessed them after an accident??? Any light you can shed would be good, and if you can make it public excellent. If you can't then can you share it by PM?

Mark, I think you do a fantastic job. Keep up the good work with kid’s hospital.

Who really gives a SH1T how long the original chassis in the car. If it is tube or what. These are the car's that have made Tuff Truck the event it is today.

When you look at Mark Suzuki you tell it’s a Suzuki. So who cares what’s under it or how it’s made.

I think it is more of a jealous thing

Ian, it is worrying but it's not. Whilst this particular topic is seperate to TTC, it's an important matter-if you are an event organiser (no matter what event) and aware of legalities relating to the running of that event, everybody is better for it. So it is important to get that professional legal view on your event-don't assume anything and find out where you stand. On this occasion TTC management did learn the importance on aspects relating to registration and I reckon that MOST 4WD comps would be in the position that we found ourselves in.

I would suggest to any 4WD comp organiser to get a legal health check on aspects of the comp but the one aspect that stands out is the rego. If TEP's learning on legal aspects can benefit all comps, then that is bloody great. It will only further the comp scene as a whole.

I would give credit where it's due to the guys that pushed us on the matter.

Hey don't get me wrong I do give credit to where it's due. However, if you have found something legally that impacts THE WHOLE of the 4wd comp scene my question is ...can you share it with us or does every one across Aus managing an event have to learn individually. I understand due diligence for comp organisers etc...but if you can give us a better insight into the issues why ask everyone else to go through the legal loop? After all it's not as if we are a professional recognised sport yet with one body that can represent us all. So if you can put in the public domain all your findings that would be great. Might save a shit load of money for some of those budding comp organisers....
Thanks Ian

All the vehicles have been passed at pre scrutineering for this year, so love them or hate them they obviously fall on the RIGHT side of the rules (doesn't matter how close to the rules, as long as they fall on the right side.)
So the constructive argument is "what are the rule going to be in 2012 (the FUTURE)"

Maybe someone needs to move some of this action ......aswell

Im my opinion......this type of advertisment is not the kind that will in the big picture move this sport - OUR SPORT forward :!: .......I dont FEEL its what TEP may want to have being displayed nor there sponsors etc etc

Dont get me wrong there are some valid points...being expressed....but its also putting a sour feel towards the Great work that Mark M has done for Very sick Kids.......

Anyway my opinion only ,as stated

Dan,

let me the first to apologise to you, each & every competitor, spectators & sponsors, it was not my intention to cast any bad light on our sport or to sour the emotions of anyone involved in this awesome event.

However i beleive i have been personally attacked on a public forum, To publicly questioning what i have stated as not being fact & to insinuate that its all rumour in my view warranted a hardy resonse!

Sometimes in life certain things are worth standing up for - Honour & Integrity are two of them!

perhaps...
instead of trying to buy TTC which seems to be growing each year.
There are plenty of empty weekends on the calendar.
maybe mark you can start your own competition.
moving things into the future does sound like "everyone build a rig like petes and mals and phils"
which from the competitors i know isnt a reality.
most competitors are struggling along as it is...
i see this abit like super league in the rugby league..
moving it into the future is going to result in 6 blokes with deep pockets and awesome trucks driving infront of a crowd of 500 and a few livestock.

its abit ironic isnt... buying tuff truck to piss the whingers off??
self ban??? (nobody else got legal advice over competing in a comp)

maybe instead of trying to change things it might be better for the masses to like it or lump it???

Taps,

I was given the blessing from the Tuff Truck officials Last year! 1. because it went to a good cause. & 2. it brought a little more possitive exposure for our sport!

Now i can only go off the feedback that is given to me via this forum or in person, and last year & this year there has been more possitive than negative - so when & if i feel that this venture is not wanted nor appreciated then i will stop!

The fact of the matter is that 23 teams so far have supported this cause & we are right at the $6000 mark - an awesome effort thus far -

So from this point forward, i am going to get back to my focusing on the charity -

DRS,

my comments in relation to buying Tuff Truck and pissing off the whingers was stated out of pure frustration at all the PETTY COMPLAINING THAT GOES ON.

Please Take time to read my comments properly!

I think the Tuff Truck Officials are heading each year in the right direction - however over the past years this has been a part time run business, which i might add, they have done a great Job.

This is the first year that someone has been working on it full time- which is what it needs to progress, however they need to add more.

A Brief & Broadbrush outline for you -

The future of this sport is FAMILIES - & should be marketed & promoted as such & as well to corporate companies as a High energy, visually spectacular SAFE family based event, with alot less focus on the Esky Comps or the Alchohol & Crackers in the night.

In my opinion Tuff Truck also needs to focus more on the Competitors - we spend alot of money to get our rigs to the event each year with little or no recognition from outside opportunities this needs to be addressed in the future - so Tuff Truck needs to attain them better opportunities through sponsorship - better promotion through Radio, Tv, Press, Promotional material ie in show bags handed out to every spectator - for example like a full A4 page on each Team, truck, driver, navi & sponsors - so as to attract more sponsor deals for each team etc

The Direction needed for Tuff Truck & its future is A SAFE & FRIENDLY FAMILY ENVIORMENT, with INNOVATIVE & OR CUTTING EDGE VECHICLES that are easily RECOGNISABLE to both the public & potential sponsors alike so as to attract the larger corporations like Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Suzuki etc to throw some money at our sport.

Lets not forget that Tuff Truck is a business - and all business need to be profitable or they get shelved.

& Just for the record the reason i had the Bandage Bear Truck Built was not only for Charity's & Promotions but mainly to COMPENSATE FOR MY LACK OF DRIVING SKILLS!

However this is just the tip of the ice berg, i have been trying to write this whilst my newborn daughter has been crying & needing nappy changes etc.

Happy to Elaborate more at a later date!

You still don't seem to get it - the only reason i got this legal advice from my mates (solicitors), was purely for the benefits for all - drivers, navi's, officials etc - i passed it on & the officials went to there own solicitor for there own advice and came up with there own decision - A GOOD ONE

If you re read my message above, it states clearly Innovative vechicles - (all budget rigs) & cutting edge vechicles (no explanation necessary) for those who so wish, this is not about money - its about everyone having fun & driving some wild stuff

You however like to complain about what you dont have & or don't want, I don't understand why you need knock & critisise those who wish to have them?

Like in 06 i had a pretty standard GQ Patrol, however my driving skills kept me at the ten point marker at each event - not so much fun for me or the crowd for that matter - so i decided to have a car built that would enable me to have fun, complete events & put on a good show.

The rest is history
