longer front shaft, shorter rear shaft

if the 5 speed is from a 60 you need to mod the gear shifter cover as they come through the floor further back

you will also want to modify the transfer case leaver in 4low it digs into your leg nothing a oxy and bending it cant solve

you also need to mod the handbrake handle as it hits the lowrange shifter

also i noticed the wiring on the reverse light might be different i still havnt solved this or looked into it just unplugged it to stop it blowing fuses

ive actually swapped in a complete 60 series rear diff and im gonna take the stock 60 series cable and get it extended/remade by about 40cm roughly still havnt measured it yet

45 series handbrake

Post by ol' 45 »

I converted my 45 ute about a year ago. Had to get a later model 40 or 45 diff housing with the 5 bolt pattern. I got hold of an old 60 series truck and pinched the backing plates with all the handbrake stuff and cable. Had to lenghten the cable to the cab by 750mm and shorten the cable between the two backing plates as the 60 has a wider track. The 60 series cable will fit straight to the orig handbrake lever in car. No mods there. The cable was adjusted at Beerwah ( near the croc farm) I think for $55.00. 60 series truck was handy as I borrowed the 5 speed and power steering setups and sold the rest and got my money back.
Can send some pics if you like but overall a pretty simple conversion and the H/Brake works well.
Tailshafts were adjusted at Nambour. Took a day or two and cost me $180.00.

Or just buy one off a BJ42. BJ42 rear housing bolts, in, or use 60 housing complete (just mod the spring perches, as its 85mm wider, but gives the tyres clearance from chassis under flex)

Also you could run a disc brake on the transfer case.

I have one here for $300, with brand new handbrake cable and all. (Bolt on)

is the handbrake cable direct bolt in

well direct bolt in at both ends then just some custom brackets for support along its length??
