H55F - location of reverse light switch and connecting it to

Post by twr7cx »

Anyone know where I'd find the reverse light switch on an H55F gearbox?

Taking a guess... as I can't see it in either of my manuals.

It should be on the gearbox, rear and I'm thinking right hand side. OR at the front on top of the top cver.

it is on the top, at the front, and it's to the driver side edge, quite close to it. You should be able to see the wiring coming from the engine bay and running to it. I suspect you may have to lower the gearbox some to get to it.

Pull your tunnel cover off, and put it in reverse, you will SEE the switch if you follow the shifter and look. there is a tiny plug and two wires.

cheers, finally going to get around to doing this. reason why I was asking is because I'm wiring up some tail lamps. ATM there's no wires going to the rear of the vehicle for the reverse lamps. No idea why but hopefully by this afternoon that shouldn't be the case.

Is this it? It's on the drivers side just next to the chasis rail:

The only other thing I can find which could be it is (but this is on the passenger side on the bell housing):

There's no plug anywhere near it for it to connect to, so I guess I'll have to chop the plug off and wire it up. Anyone know which wire should go to where? I assume 1 should go to the reverse light and the other to an switched positive power source.

That blue plug looks like the 4wd activation light sender (for models that had a 4wd light on the dash). If you follow the wires back on that blue plug it will go to the transfer case, near the 2wd/4wd lever. The wiring you are chasing is attached to the gearbox, not transfer. You should find it at the top of the gearbox, right at the front where it meets the bellhousing. As said, you may have to pull the tunnel cover off to see it.

Done, lights are lighting up now (which is a good thing for lights to be doing).
