G16B running rich and idling high

Post by Taff »

Just finished my G16B conversion into my sierra.

It ran great for the first day but now its idling high and running rich. checked all my sensors and wires and everything seems to be ok. the fuel pressure regulator is hooked up properly and seems to be working. Using the stock vitara fuel pump. the only thing i can find wrong is a hole in the manifold.

any pointers where to look for whats causing this?

How is the coolant temp sensor for the engine ECU? Check its not reading bad and keeping the motor in cold start maps? Do you have any vacuum or exhaust leaks?

coolant temp sensor is hooked up correct

there is a hole in the exhaust manifold right near #4 cylinder.

will recheck for vac leaks.

it is idling at 1500-2000 constant.

when its fully warmed up or cold it has a constant idle but in between it will bounce from 1800-2000 like it is switching fuel maps.

block off your pcv valve and see what happens. sounds like one i was playing with a while ago. might have had a bit much blow by and the engine was being force fed crankcase fumes, i think we put a restricter in the line from memory

Check your idle air control valve too, make sure its not full of crud. Do you have an air flow meter, if you do check that you dont have any vacuum leaks after the air flow meter. This will cause high rough idle. If you dont have and AFM ( i cant remember if the G16B does or not :finger:) then make sure your MAP sensor connections are good and the vacum line is not leaking.

turns out the hose from the IAC valve to the thermostat was blocked up with lots of brown goop. cleared it out and now its running fine. :D still need some extractors though.

still running stupidly rich. used 32L over 180km so its sucking it down.

black smoke at idle.

only error code I'm getting is for the VSS.

how do you check a fuel pressure regulator is working correctly?

is it worth getting a new coolant temp sensor for the ECU? is there an easy check for this as well?

its all stock computer / fuel pump / tank

turned out to be the inlet side of the AFM was being pinched a little bit by the hose clamp and not letting it spring all the way back.

soooo soo much more responsive off idle now, its not drowning :P
