if you pull the spare out its only roadworthy if you pull the jack and wheel brace out aswell.
that's a strange one. i only take a spare if i am on my own and as i mostly play with other zuk's i would just bludge one.

i got defected at stockton beach on australia day
94 vit-
he got me for tyres-too big and stick out of guard(31x10.5)
rear fog light cable tied on(still working tho)
thats it, he was an a-hole to a point but very god damn stupid cause a rear fog light is not needed by law

he didnt get me for-
lift-including spacers
cut guards and firewall bashed in about 2 inches
no carpet
welded diff

most cops dont know what they r looking for in a 4wd, they only know about road cars which have mods
the blue slip place i went to was only concerned with what was written on the defect notice and he cleared the tyres and said "the fog light? was this guy drunk or just plain stupid"

Carpet is not, as far as I am aware, a defctable item.

my 1.0 was RWCed with no carpet in it.

LJ suzuki's had no carpet/vinyl/anything stock.

cops will pick at anything just to get you done and the more you argue the more stupid thing they will make up.

Your best bet is to keep calm and dont give them attitude. Some cops suck. But most are pretty cool. As long as your are not driving a death trap of bootyfab and be polite and nice you will usually be fine. I have been pulled over for RBT before with swampers hanging out etc. Been polite, had a quick chat then off you go. I acutally get more looks from cops in my turbo liberty than my zook.

As for cops acutally knowing what they are looking at. Plain and simple the majority dont. I have seen that many stupid defects handed out. The police issue a defect if they think its defective. The onus is on the owner to prove otherwise. It sucks that a mechanic has to do 4 years of apprenticeship, 2 more years in the trade then a course to be legally able to judge a cars roadworthness, but a police officer undergoes litterally none to make the same decision.

*note - this is not a dig at all police, just some : :finger: *

If there are holes etc in the carpet it is defectable, but not defectable for no carpet ...

basically, for the people who dont know: blue slips in NSW are usually difficult to get through. You have to get your vehicle back to standard . Now by standard I mean, if it came out with 26 inch tyres, you have to run 26 inch tyres. If it came out with door skins it must have door skins. If it came out with a spare, you must have a spare (it doesnt matter if u take your jack and wheel brace out or not it all has to be there and be roadworthy) tears in seats are NOT ok, you have to sew them up/glue them up whatever it takes so they dont look torn (you cant just throw a seat cover on them because for a blue slip they should take them off and check the seats). If it came out with carpet, it must have carpet. You cant have drop shackles on it because they couldnt come factory.
OK now, having said that. If your vehicle came out with 26 inch tyres, but they COULD come out with 31 inch tyres, you can run 31's. If it COULD come out without carpet, you dont need it. If it COULD come out with cheap crap plastic door skins, you can run crap plastic door skins. now as for shackles, no you dont have to use original gear (84 shackles on an 84 vehicle) just as long as it has the same dimensions/measurements and crap. As close as possible to the STANDARD it came out as.

sounds like the spare tyre rule - if you have a spare, it must be roadworthy, but you don't need to have a spare.

Fug em , learn the law. I get extremely irratated when being told things arent legal when they are .

Any how , heres a link

The adr section in this link is only a vauge discription of the items the perticuler adr covers.

Remember that the adr is only required if it is relavent to your vehicles
manufacture date the date of the adrs inception is shown at the top of the discription.

Although your vehicle may not be covered by a certian adr there are still basic rules pertaining to lighting sharpe edges , ect .

if this the defect you are talking about in your other thread about an engineer then you're stuffed. you have 28 days to clear a defect notice. After that the vehicle is deregistered and you have to reregister the vehicle which is a hell of a lot more complicated.

sounds like the spare tyre rule - if you have a spare, it must be roadworthy, but you don't need to have a spare.
Just say your transporting a tyre that your selling and that the easiest place to carry it is on the spare carrier

I carry a paper copy of the ADR's and RTA rules and my cars workshop book and if I get pulled over for a check and they pick on something that I know is legal/stock I pull out my books and say "prove it's illegal" and they usually just cbf finding it in the book so I get let off :P

If they're defecting you for it they must be able to prove to you through the right documentation that somethings illegal if you have the docs handy, otherwise they look like fools and i've noticed they get all embarrased.

ha ha got pulled over last week by highway patrol, they said it was a random breath test, but before they gave it to me they said by the was we cant see your number plate that my tow bar/ball are covering it and it would be a $250 fine, so i said no probs i will take it off, it was dark so i asked to borrow his torch to find my shifter and they said dont worry just take it off at home... they didnt defect me for my illegal mods... lol got away again- lol
